The beauty market is chaotic.

The matrix of "high-quality" beauty products on Facebook, but fake ones in real life.

TTN Ms. N. stated that she had also researched on social media and found that the establishment's fan page had many followers and comments. The owner of the beauty salon said that the Hanoi branch had a location in a large building in Ho Chi Minh City. Trusting that it was a reputable place because it was located in a large building, Ms. N. deposited 2 million VND for a nose augmentation service priced at 50 million VND.

On the day of her appointment, Ms. N. discovered that the advertised facility was just a room in a building, with no sign, and only two benches for rhinoplasty surgery. Despite her worries, she still had hope in the doctor's skills as advertised online.

Four days after the surgery, her nose started to ooze fluid. The following days were filled with crisis due to severe complications, requiring her to seek treatment. When she went to the hospital for examination, the doctor diagnosed an infection at the suture site, requiring the stitches to be removed and the cartilage extracted from her nose without anesthesia due to the ongoing infection.

Ms. N's nose became inflamed and damaged 4 days after undergoing a rhinoplasty at an unlicensed facility.

"I suffered from inflammation of the suture line; the stitches became inflamed and pus-filled, which was truly terrifying. When my nose was damaged, I didn't know where to go to get the inflammation treated," Ms. N recounted.

Ms. N.'s case is one of thousands of cosmetic surgery cases that have resulted in complications due to procedures performed at unlicensed facilities in recent times. Statistics from the Vietnam Association of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery show that each year, 250,000 people in Vietnam undergo cosmetic surgery, of which approximately 25,000 to 35,000 cases experience complications, accounting for 14%.

According to the Inspectorate of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health , in recent times, this unit has continuously fined and suspended the operations of many individuals and cosmetic clinics and medical facilities for violations. Recently, this unit also issued decisions to fine several dermatology and cosmetic clinics for numerous violations such as Using substances or devices to interfere with the human body at facilities other than hospitals with specialized cosmetic surgery or medical examination and treatment departments without a valid medical practice license…

Why, despite numerous warnings, are the number of cosmetic surgery complications still increasing?

With the increasing demand for beauty services among both men and women, beauty salons and aesthetic clinics are springing up everywhere. However, the market is a mix of high-quality and low-quality products, and the proliferation of all kinds of advertising can overwhelm many people, ultimately leading to them losing money unnecessarily.

These establishments often advertise with vivid images and videos , using flattering words that are like "pouring honey" into the ear. They also include many false promises, fake reviews, attractive promotions, and even present "living testimonials" from celebrities who have had beauty treatments there, playing on the psychology of beauty seekers and urging them to pay deposits to reserve a spot or secure a special offer. Faced with this maze of beauty treatments, many people have "unwittingly" chosen them.

Be cautious when choosing a beauty clinic.

Dr. Nguyen Thanh Vinh, a specialist at FV Hospital, stated that FV Hospital frequently receives cases of cosmetic surgery accidents. Treating botched cosmetic procedures is always much more difficult than the procedures themselves, causing health and mental harm, high costs, and lasting consequences.

When choosing a beauty facility, people should select a reputable plastic surgery clinic or hospital with experienced doctors, full professional certifications and operating licenses, modern equipment, and operating rooms with strict infection control procedures. This will minimize the risk of infection during cosmetic surgery.

Furthermore, during cosmetic procedures, people should consult directly with the surgeon who will be performing the surgery, rather than just consulting with an advisor or a doctor who is not the one performing the operation.

Dr. Nguyen Thanh Vinh, Specialist II, FV Lifestyle Aesthetic Institute, FV Hospital, advises clients on cosmetic surgery.

In addition, the doctor advises: "The number of likes, comments, and followers on a social media page does not prove the competence of a beauty establishment. Instead, choose establishments that are qualified and licensed by professional bodies," Dr. Vinh emphasized.
