On the afternoon of April 18th, at the beach and Nguyen Tat Thanh Square area (Quy Nhon City, Binh Dinh Province), hundreds of kites of various colors, shapes, and sizes soared in the sky as part of the Quy Nhon - Binh Dinh 2025 Artistic Kite Festival.
Kites inspired by ocean creatures such as octopuses, lobsters, squid, stingrays, and swordfish attract much attention from tourists and locals alike due to their unique and whimsical shapes.
This is one of the activities marking the start of this year's summer tourism season in Binh Dinh.
According to Mr. Nguyen Luong Hai, Secretary of the Quy Nhon City Youth Union, the Artistic Kite Festival is organized by the Quy Nhon City People's Committee in coordination with the Quy Nhon City Youth Union.
The Quy Nhon City Youth Union purchased approximately 20 aerodynamic kites for the festival. The largest measured around 35 meters, while the smallest was 1 meter. In addition, dozens of other aerodynamic kites from various kite clubs also participated in the festival.
“Kite clubs in the city, along with the Saigon Kite Club, have been invited to organize this festival, promising to bring locals, domestic and international tourists the chance to admire giant aerodynamic kites, especially aerodynamic light-up kites, on Quy Nhon beach at night,” said Mr. Hai.
Adjusting the kite strings, Nguyen Huu Toan (Saigon Kite Club) said: “I’ve been playing this sport for 10 years. Ten people from our club came to Quy Nhon to participate in this kite festival. You need a large number of people to fly the kites because they are very big.”
Accompanied by her daughter to watch the kites, Ms. Ho Mai, a resident of Quy Nhon City, couldn't hide her delight: "I see that this year there are many types and new shapes of kites. The children love coming here. This year there are also illuminated kites, so I think many people will come to see them."
Mr. Le Minh Thang, a tourist from Gia Lai , shared that the kite festival brings more tourists to Quy Nhon beach, creating more fun places to visit and take photos, especially for young people.
The Quy Nhon - Binh Dinh Artistic Kite Festival took place over two days, April 18th and 19th. Aerodynamic kite performances were held from 2 PM to 5:30 PM, and aerodynamic illuminated kite performances from 6:30 PM to 10 PM, featuring approximately 60 artistic kites, with a maximum flight height of about 25 meters.
