Song Tu Tay Island infirmary treats fisherman with decompression sickness

BPO - On April 27, Song Tu Tay Island Infirmary, Brigade 146, Naval Region 4 received and treated a fisherman from Binh Dinh province who suffered from decompression sickness while fishing in the Truong Sa archipelago.

The patient was quickly taken to the emergency room at Song Tu Tay Island Infirmary.

The patient is Mr. Dang An (born in 1992, residing in Hoai Nhon town, Binh Dinh province), a crew member of fishing boat BD 98291TS, captained by Mr. Dang Duong, a fellow villager.

According to the captain of fishing boat BD 98291TS, while fishing about 20 nautical miles from Song Tu Tay Island (in Truong Sa archipelago), the patient dived 3 times on April 26, the last dive at a depth of about 35m. When getting on the boat, the patient experienced pain, numbness, weakness in both limbs, slurred speech, and was taken to Song Tu Tay Island Infirmary by the crew for emergency treatment in a conscious state with good communication.

Doctor examines patient with hypotension

Through examination, doctors diagnosed the patient with acute decompression sickness, severe level (type 2) due to diving 35m deep, 11 hours. The patient is continuing to be monitored and treated at the island infirmary.
