Yemen U.17's 6-1 victory over Myanmar U.17 in the early match of Group I of the AFC U.17 Asian Qualifiers puts significant pressure on Vietnam U.17. Coach Cristiano Roland's team needs to defeat Kyrgyzstan U.17 to at least close the points gap with Yemen U.17 after the first round.
However, the Kyrgyzstan U.17 team is not an easy opponent to overcome. The Central Asian team has improved significantly recently, as evidenced by the fact that in matches between the senior national team and the U.23 team, Vietnam has failed to defeat Kyrgyzstan.
Vietnam U.17 (in red shirts) dominated the game but created very few opportunities.
In the match at Phu Tho Stadium, the Vietnam U17 team, despite having better possession, struggled against the well-organized defense of the Kyrgyzstan U17 team. Even in the 17th minute, the home team's defense misjudged a shot, allowing Alisherov to break through and miss the target.
The following minutes were a back-and-forth affair, with both teams fiercely contesting the midfield. Vietnam U17 attempted short passes from their own half, but when they advanced into the opponent's defensive half, Nguyen Van Bach and his teammates faced considerable difficulties. Vietnam U17's attacking tactics were neutralized by the Central Asian youth team's excellent one-on-one skills and defensive coverage.
Conversely, Kyrgyzstan U.17's powerful throw-ins into the penalty area became their signature tactic, causing difficulties for the home team.
Kyrgyzstan U.17 team displayed disciplined defense.
After a goalless first half, Vietnam U17 intensified their attack in the second half. In the 56th minute, Nguyen Luc unleashed a dangerous shot from outside the penalty area, but the ball went wide of the goal. Eight minutes later, Van Duong tested the Kyrgyzstan U17 goalkeeper with a curling shot, but the visitors still prevailed.
The Vietnam U17 team relentlessly sought opportunities, with coach Roland's entire squad pressing forward in the final 20 minutes. However, against the tightly organized Kyrgyzstan U17 team, Roland's players couldn't even get close to the penalty area, let alone create chances. In the 90+3 minute, Tran Gia Bao's shot narrowly missed the post from the edge of the penalty area, ending a disappointing match for the Vietnam U17 team.
Unable to score, Vietnam U17 drew 0-0 with Kyrgyzstan U17 and finished second in the group after the final round. At 7 PM on October 25th, Vietnam U17 will face Myanmar U17.
To qualify for the finals, the Vietnam U.17 team needs to put in more effort.
