Two missile frigates of the Vietnam Navy departed this morning (March 19) for joint patrol and joint training with the Chinese Navy in the Gulf of Tonkin, witnessed by General Phan Van Giang (Minister of National Defense) and General Dong Jun, Minister of National Defense of China. The event took place within the framework of the 10th Vietnam-China Border Defense Friendship Exchange.
Vice Admiral Tran Thanh Nghiem (Commander of the Navy) stated: "The joint patrol operation, which includes live firing and simulated anti-piracy exercises, contributes to maintaining security and order in the Gulf of Tonkin, enhances the ability to respond to non-traditional security challenges, and strengthens mutual trust and understanding between the navies of the two countries. It also promotes deeper, more substantive, and more developed cooperation between the two navies."

The delegation visited a Chinese Navy ship.
Within the framework of the friendship exchange, activities also took place in the Vietnamese border area, such as: the groundbreaking ceremony for the Hai Son Friendship Medical Station to better meet the medical needs of the people in the border region; and visits to Tran Phu High School and Tra Co Border Guard Post in Quang Ninh.
Meanwhile, in Guangxi, China, activities included visiting the Ho Chi Minh Trail on the Sea and laying wreaths at the Monument to the Revolutionary Martyrs of China and Vietnam. These diverse activities demonstrate that friendly exchanges in border defense between the two countries are becoming increasingly substantive and developing in both breadth and depth.
"The highlight of this meeting is the strengthening of mutual political trust through the talks. In particular, both sides highly value, cultivate, and strengthen the traditional solidarity, mutual respect, and adherence to international law in order to build a peaceful, friendly, stable, and developing border," said Lieutenant General Nguyen Anh Tuan (Political Commissar of the Border Guard).
The 10th Vietnam-China Border Defense Friendship Exchange is particularly significant as it was held immediately after the first Vietnam-China Ministerial-level Strategic Dialogue on Foreign Affairs, Defense, and Public Security. Through 10 editions, this diplomatic event has become a prime example of border defense cooperation between the two neighboring countries, working together to "build a peaceful, friendly, cooperative, and developing border."
