The number of people installing rooftop solar panels has increased significantly.

VTV.vn - The demand for rooftop solar power installation is increasing sharply in many localities as people and businesses want to reduce electricity costs and move towards using green energy.

According to a representative from the Northern Power Corporation (EVNNPC), rooftop solar power for self-production and self-consumption is experiencing positive growth in the northern provinces, especially following the Prime Minister 's Directive 10 on strengthening electricity saving and developing rooftop solar power.

According to the Northern Power Corporation, the current wave of interest in rooftop solar power is concentrated among businesses, commercial and service establishments, and households looking to reduce their electricity costs.

The program for developing self-sufficient rooftop solar power continues to be strongly promoted. In the first four months of this year, the entire corporation had 5,639 self-sufficient rooftop solar power customers with a total capacity of approximately 528.1 MW.

Similarly, in Ho Chi Minh City, 22,355 rooftop solar power systems have been installed, with a total capacity of approximately 1,832 MWp. Notably, the market is beginning to see a trend where customers not only install solar power but also integrate battery storage to optimize electricity usage efficiency.

Regarding rooftop solar power, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hoang Long recently signed Decision No. 1126 promulgating the Action Plan of the Ministry of Industry and Trade to implement Directive No. 10 dated March 30, 2026 of the Prime Minister on strengthening electricity saving and developing rooftop solar power.

According to the newly issued plan, the Ministry of Industry and Trade aims to achieve a minimum electricity saving of 3.0% of the total national electricity consumption in 2026.

In particular, during the peak hot months (from April to July), the target for saving electricity consumption is set at a minimum of 10%.

Notably, the plan includes a directive from the Ministry of Industry and Trade to promote the development of self-sufficient rooftop solar power, prioritizing installation at government offices, production and business establishments, service facilities, and households; and encouraging the installation of integrated energy storage systems to reduce peak-hour load and increase local power self-sufficiency.

The annual target is to have approximately 10% of government offices and 10% of households nationwide using rooftop solar power, or to reach 20% of the total installed capacity as planned in the 2026-2030 development plan of each locality.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade encourages households to install and use rooftop solar power systems combined with energy storage systems to proactively secure a portion of their household's electricity supply and save on electricity costs; install solar water heating systems and other suitable renewable energy solutions.
