Amidst the spring atmosphere spreading across the border villages, Binh Lieu will organize many spring festivals, cultural and sporting activities... to serve the people and tourists from near and far.
"To create a festive atmosphere and a space for experiencing Tet, the district will organize a variety of spring festivals and recreational activities throughout the district and in villages and hamlets... meeting the needs of local people for enjoyment and celebrating the spring festival, and also serving as an attractive destination for tourists' spring excursions," said Mr. Vi Ngoc Nhat, Head of the District's Culture and Information Department.
Visiting Binh Lieu as early as the twelfth lunar month, tourists can already feel the approaching Tet (Lunar New Year) atmosphere in every Dao household, amidst the early-blooming peach blossoms. Perhaps what many tourists enjoy most is the Dao New Year, a unique festival and cultural feature of Binh Lieu. The Dao people here celebrate Tet from the 15th of the twelfth lunar month to the 15th of the first lunar month. Throughout the month of Tet, the Dao people take turns celebrating in different households within their clan. The most vibrant period is from the 20th of the twelfth lunar month to the 15th of the first lunar month. The Tet atmosphere and colors will fill every alley and village of the Dao people.
Each ethnic community in Binh Lieu has its own New Year customs. These are the pieces that make up the unique cultural tapestry of the traditional Tet holiday in this border region. The Tay people in Binh Lieu often organize the Then ritual to pray for blessings and peace at the beginning of the year and a thanksgiving ceremony at the end of the year. Besides enjoying the atmosphere rich in traditional culture, locals and tourists also have the opportunity to participate in folk games... organized at the village and commune levels.
As Tet (Lunar New Year) approaches, Binh Lieu also hosts many traditional festivals. Moreover, this year is a special occasion as the Wind-Avoiding Festival will be held on April 30th - May 1st, coinciding with the announcement of the Thanh Phan Dao people's wind-avoiding custom as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage. The festival is an opportunity for visitors to enjoy various performances. Pả Dung singing, excerpts from the Thanh Phán Dao wedding ceremony, excerpts from the Dao coming-of-age ceremony, Then dances and songs… of the ethnic groups in Bình Liêu.
For the upcoming Lunar New Year 2025, Binh Lieu district has announced and will organize approximately 30 special cultural and sports activities across all 7 communes and towns in the district. These activities will span before, during, and after the Lunar New Year 2025. In particular, the district will restore and organize the Vo Ngai Temple Festival on the 5th and 6th of the first lunar month.
Reportedly, to serve tourists visiting during the Lunar New Year holiday, Binh Lieu district has encouraged the opening and maintenance of food and accommodation services throughout the holiday. Currently, the district has announced a list of 14 accommodation establishments including hotels, guesthouses, and homestays, and 6 restaurants and eateries that will serve tourists throughout the holiday.
