Stabilizing the market after Tet

To ensure market supply, many supermarkets, shops, and stalls in traditional markets throughout Quang Ninh province reopened for business right from the first days of the new year.

Goods and food items are abundant and diverse, meeting the shopping needs of the people; prices have not fluctuated much compared to the period before Tet.

According to the Department of Industry and Trade, the market for goods after Tet is basically stable in terms of price, and the products on display are very diverse and abundant, with no shortages or lack of goods for sale.

Observations at Ha Long Markets I, II, and others show bustling buying and selling activity. The number of shoppers has returned, with a full range of goods and necessities to meet people's needs. Ms. Le Thi Hong, from Tran Hung Dao ward (Ha Long City), said: "In the days after Tet, I went to the market and saw a full range of goods. Previously, my family used to buy things to stock up in the freezer for Tet, but now we only buy what we need, and we just go back to the market to buy more, ensuring freshness. Prices are also reasonable and haven't increased excessively."

After Tet (Lunar New Year), people's consumer demand mainly focuses on fresh food, catering services, tourism , entertainment, and recreation. This year, the prices of fresh food, vegetables, and meat saw slight increases from the 3rd to the 5th day of Tet. Currently, prices have cooled down and are basically stable. Vegetables such as watercress, cabbage, morning glory, and cauliflower are priced from 10,000-20,000 VND/bundle. Seafood is abundant: tiger prawns at 600,000 VND/kg; barracuda and grouper at 300,000-320,000 VND/kg; crabs at around 500,000-650,000 VND/kg; rock snails at 170,000 VND/kg; blood cockles at 165,000 VND/kg; and mussels at 180,000 VND/kg. Sea bass costs 150,000 VND/kg; grouper costs 250,000 VND/kg… Pork prices increased slightly by 20,000-50,000 VND during Tet, but have cooled down since the 6th day of Tet. Pork belly costs 130,000 VND/kg; ribs 150,000 VND/kg; beef 260,000-280,000 VND/kg…

In addition, to ensure the supply of goods and food for the people after the Lunar New Year, supermarkets have proactively opened early to stabilize the market and prevent price spikes and shortages. For example, GO! Ha Long supermarket opened on the morning of the second day of Tet; MM Mega Market opened on the morning of the third day of Tet; and Winmart supermarket started opening on the fourth day of Tet.

Observations at GO! Ha Long Supermarket show that, thanks to effective price stabilization efforts, goods remain abundant, diverse, and reasonably priced before, during, and after Tet (Lunar New Year), meeting the needs of shoppers. Ms. Pham Viet Lu, Director of GO! Ha Long Supermarket, stated: "This year, to help customers purchase consumer goods during and after Tet, GO! Ha Long Supermarket opened on January 30th (the second day of Tet). The supermarket stocks a full range of vegetables, fruits, meat, bread, and essential goods… All products are guaranteed to be safe and hygienic, with ample supply and many promotional and discount programs to increase choices for consumers. Currently, the number of shoppers at the supermarket has increased again. The supermarket will continue to import goods and develop promotional programs, discounts, and prize draws… to stimulate shopping and ensure a stable supply chain."

To stabilize the market and absolutely prevent the formation of hotspots, gathering places, and groups involved in the trading, transportation, and sale of counterfeit, fake, and substandard goods in the area, the Department of Industry and Trade has developed and implemented plans to inspect and control the market before, during, and after the 2025 Lunar New Year. This includes the simultaneous implementation of various operational measures to effectively control the situation and stabilize the domestic market, especially in key areas and for essential goods subject to price stabilization; strengthening inspections, handling, and publicly disclosing individuals engaging in commercial fraud; and focusing on controlling smuggling, commercial fraud, and illegal cross-border transportation of goods. Simultaneously, it directs relevant forces and units to coordinate with local authorities to monitor supply and demand and market prices in their respective localities to stabilize the market and ensure the legitimate rights of consumers in purchasing food and goods.
