Phuoc Tin commune in Phuoc Long town is one of the first two communes in Binh Phuoc province selected for investment to achieve the model new rural area status in 2024. This provides the conditions and foundation for the Party Committee, government, and people of the commune to continue improving infrastructure and many other important indicators and criteria. This will contribute to improving the material and spiritual lives of the people, as well as elevating the locality's status and appearance to a new level.
Economic breakthrough
Established in October 2017 based on the shareholding of 11 members with 100 hectares of various fruit trees, mostly durian, the Bau Nghe Fruit Cooperative (Phuoc Long Town) has now attracted 47 members cultivating 244 hectares of durian after 7 years of operation. The cooperative's durian is grown and cared for according to VietGAP standards and has been granted planting area codes by the General Administration of Customs of China in 2022 for 200 hectares for 31 members and 44 hectares in 2023 for 16 members. After harvesting, the durian is carefully packaged for export to the Chinese market. On average, each hectare of durian (from the 7th year onwards) yields 15-20 tons.

According to Truong Van Dao, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bau Nghe Fruit Cooperative: The establishment of the cooperative has brought many practical benefits to both members and society. These include government investment in building a well-developed transportation system and bringing electricity to the orchards, creating momentum and promoting production development. Besides sharing experiences in planting and caring for durian trees and finding markets for the products, the cooperative's greatest success lies in researching and effectively controlling various pests and diseases. In particular, once operating efficiently and systematically, after each harvest, the cooperative organizes a review and evaluation, and simultaneously raises funds to support social charitable activities. Members of the cooperative have actively participated in and supported various funds launched by different levels of government, such as the "For the Poor" Fund, the farmer support fund, and contributions to the New Rural Development program.

With its advantageous soil, climate, and geographical location, and especially its significant economic benefits, the Bau Nghe Fruit Cooperative is trending towards expanding its scale. “In 2024, a prolonged drought caused many areas in Dak Nong and Binh Phuoc to experience water shortages, resulting in fruit drop and damage, forcing farmers to abandon their durian trees. However, in Bau Nghe, there is ample water for irrigation, both from reservoirs and drilled wells. With over 400 hectares of land, Bau Nghe still has room for growth, so its direction is to continue expanding the durian cultivation area. Durian still has a market, supply has not exceeded demand, and it brings higher economic value than some other crops,” Mr. Dao shared.
According to Mr. Dao, although supply has not yet exceeded demand, bringing high economic value, for stable long-term development, it is necessary to create a brand for Binh Phuoc durian, including facilitating customs clearance and export. For example, Bau Nghe durian is produced according to VietGAP standards, but the harvesting, packaging, and export processes lack quality inspection by a functional unit. Therefore, when trading through border gates, it faces difficulties due to the lack of supporting documents, which needs to be addressed. He suggested that the authorities establish a quality inspection team when products leave the orchards and conduct thorough inspections, not just recommendations. Only then can the brand of Binh Phuoc durian be built to compete with neighboring countries.
Determined to reach the finish line on schedule.
With economic development and improved material and spiritual lives, many multi-story houses and Thai-style roofs have sprung up in residential areas of Phuoc Tin commune. Along with this, rural infrastructure such as electricity, roads, schools, health stations, cultural facilities, lighting, and irrigation systems have been invested in and built synchronously and modernly, contributing to Phuoc Tin commune achieving the New Rural Area (NRA) goal in 2017 and the advanced NRA goal in 2020. Notably, Phuoc Tin currently has no poor households, with an average per capita income of 88 million VND in 2023. This is an important foundation and prerequisite for Phuoc Tin to strive to achieve the model NRA goal in 2024.

Currently, in addition to three-quarters of its schools being recognized as meeting national standards, Phuoc Tin has invested in the construction of a spacious, modern, and well-equipped multi-purpose sports arena, creating favorable conditions for residents to participate in training and competitions to improve their health. To create momentum for strong development and a significant highlight for the commune, Phuoc Tin has requested the Phuoc Long Town People's Committee to invest in upgrading and expanding the Thong Nhat road connecting Phuoc Tin commune to Phuoc Tan commune, Phu Rieng district, with a length of approximately 2km. At the same time, they have requested investment in building sidewalks and planting trees along Dien Bien Phu road (the central road of the commune), from Phuoc Qua intersection to Phuoc Loc intersection, approximately 2km long.

According to the Chairman of the People's Committee of Phuoc Tin Commune, Van Dinh Trung, being selected to achieve the model new rural area status by 2024 is a great honor and source of pride, so the Party Committee, government, and people of the commune are striving and determined to complete the set goals. The People's Committee of the commune has assigned specific tasks to each member of the New Rural Area Construction Management Board and is currently implementing the three model new rural area criteria: culture, security and order, and digital transformation. Currently, Phuoc Tin is strongly implementing digital transformation and achieving many positive results, with all six villages having established community digital technology groups on the Zalo application. These groups widely disseminate information and guidelines of the Party, policies, and laws of the State on digital transformation to households and people. At the same time, they educate and guide people on installing and mastering the skills to use digital platforms, e-commerce, public administrative services, and basic digital applications.
According to Mr. Trung, despite achieving many positive results, the commune encountered some difficulties and obstacles during implementation, namely the planning of the national bauxite mineral reserve area, which needs attention and resolution. Three hamlets in the commune are located within the planning area: Bau Nghe, Phuoc Loc, and Hung Lap, with a total area of over 3,000 hectares (accounting for approximately 50% of the commune's total area). It is hoped that in the near future, Binh Phuoc province and the Prime Minister will have new policies to adjust or remove a portion of the area from the planning zone, thereby enabling Phuoc Tin to become a ward and ensuring the livelihoods of the local people.
It is hoped that the difficulties will soon be addressed and gradually overcome. The important issue now is that the Party Committee, government, and people of Phuoc Tin are striving every day to make the commune the first model new rural commune in the province.
