The Ministry of Public Security is investing heavily in the 'super app' VNeID.

The platforms for population data, identification, and electronic authentication will be significantly upgraded.

According to the draft Decree on mobilizing scientific and technological potential to serve the activities of the People's Police, developed by the Ministry of Public Security and open for comments until May 31st, citizen data platforms, identification and electronic authentication platforms such as VNeID will receive significant investment and upgrades in technological infrastructure.

In addition to leveraging existing resources, the Ministry of Public Security also plans to mobilize leading experts in big data, artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, cloud computing, and digital infrastructure to participate in the research and development of the system.

In terms of technology, VNeID is expected to undergo significant system upgrades to improve processing capabilities, resulting in smoother application performance and reduced lag, stuttering, or network congestion when a large number of users access the application simultaneously.

This move aligns with the direction of making VNeID a central platform in the national digital ecosystem, as outlined in the project for developing citizen data applications, identification, and electronic authentication approved by the Prime Minister on May 26th.

According to the set goals, by 2028, all personal documents will be digitized. Citizens will be able to perform many online procedures from anywhere using their personal digital signatures integrated directly into the application. Even registering the owner of a phone SIM card can be done through authentication via VNeID.

Notably, by 2030, VNeID is planned to integrate bank accounts and e-wallets into level 2 identity verification accounts. At that time, people will be able to use the application to pay for many services without using cash.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is also expected to appear in many utilities aimed at personalizing the user experience. Applications can automatically suggest suitable services, assist with procedures, or optimize the experience according to individual needs.

Looking further ahead to 2045, VNeID is envisioned to develop into an integrated digital ecosystem offering many essential services such as electricity, water, healthcare, education , transportation, administrative procedures, and other utilities on a single platform.

By the end of 2025, more than 65 million VNeID accounts had been activated nationwide. The application currently integrates various documents such as citizen identification cards, health insurance cards, driver's licenses, passports, residence information, social insurance, tax information, marital status, diplomas, and school transcripts.

According to published data, approximately 25% of adults already possess personal digital signatures; 90% of insurance participants have electronic health records; and 100% of public hospitals, public health centers, and higher education institutions have implemented cashless payments. This is considered a foundation for expanding more digital utilities on VNeID in the future.

Citizens can now use VNeID to present electronic documents when using many services instead of paper copies, and can also proactively update necessary documents directly on the application.
