In this guideline, the Ministry of Education and Training sets out new requirements for university admissions. This also has an impact on candidates.
Specifically, with the construction of admission methods (combinations, independent tests), the guidance requires that subject combinations or independent assessment tests used for admission must be built scientifically , practically and ensure the selection of candidates with basic knowledge and core competencies appropriate to the training program. In particular, it is necessary to meet a number of specific requirements.
In cases where a university or college training program requires basic knowledge in a certain subject, the training institution must specify an entry threshold for that subject to ensure that candidates have studied that subject in high school.
For example, a medical training program that requires basic knowledge of biology needs to specify requirements for high school biology scores or high school graduation exams.
The training institution must specify the minimum score ratio of the core content (related to the field of study) that the candidate must achieve in the total score of the exam. For example, when considering admission to the mathematics major using an independent assessment test, the training institution must clearly specify the score ratio of the mathematics section in the exam.
With this new regulation, universities must set a minimum score for the foundation exam of the major, similar to the minimum score for the exam in the admission combination. Candidates must achieve this minimum score or higher to be considered for admission.
For example, the medical major of University A requires a minimum score of 7 points or higher in biology. Candidates with a total score higher than the minimum score of the medical major of the school, but a biology score in high school or a high school graduation exam score below 7 will not be considered for admission.
However, there are exceptions for some fields. The above requirements may not apply to language training fields where learners start from a basic level (for example, learning French from scratch). Similarly, fields such as technology education or computer education may also have appropriate adjustments.
The Ministry of Education and Training also noted that during the admission process, universities are not allowed to set requirements that cause trouble for candidates, contrary to the Government's regulations on abolishing the requirement to submit or present household registration books and certificates of residence information when carrying out administrative procedures.
