According to Deputy Minister of Health Tran Van Thuan, the program's goal is to strive for every citizen to receive at least one free periodic health check-up or screening per year, and to have an electronic health record created to manage their health throughout their lifecycle starting in 2026.
This is considered one of the biggest steps taken by the healthcare sector in recent years, aiming to shift strongly from "treating disease" to "preventing disease," detecting risks early, and reducing the burden of disease and healthcare costs for the people.
Notably, the Ministry of Health requires that when suspected signs of pulmonary tuberculosis, lung tumors, or other dangerous diseases are detected through clinical examination or imaging, medical facilities must order further specialized tests or refer patients to appropriate levels for early intervention.
Experts believe that if implemented effectively, the policy of providing free health checkups for all citizens will fundamentally change the healthcare habits of Vietnamese people.
