Mudryk is currently suspended from competition due to a doping test. |
The UK Anti-Doping Agency (UKAD) recently released shocking information. Since 2022, they have detected nine players testing positive for banned substances. In 2023 alone, four violations were confirmed, two of whom currently play in the Premier League.
Notably, both players tested positive immediately after the match, but their identities have not been revealed as the investigation is ongoing. If found guilty, they could face lengthy bans from competition.
The case of Mykhailo Mudryk has attracted attention. The Ukrainian player was found to have used Meldonium – a substance that accelerates recovery – while playing in his home country. The Chelsea player denied all allegations, but was temporarily suspended and faces the risk of a ban of up to four years.
Previously, former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba was also sacked by Juventus and received a four-year ban after testing positive for DHEA, a substance that increases testosterone levels. His sentence was eventually reduced to 18 months, and he is now looking for a new club.
Furthermore, English football also faces the problem of addiction and mental health issues. As many as 530 professional players are currently receiving treatment for problems such as substance abuse, alcohol abuse, and gambling.
Brentford midfielder Christian Norgaard has previously spoken out to warn about this issue. He said he was once terrified of becoming addicted to sleeping pills and urged the public not to treat it as a minor problem.
