WHY ARE FAN MEETINGS BECOMING INCREASINGLY ATTRACTIVE?
Throughout the past year, despite holding 8 concerts both domestically and internationally, audiences still seem unsatisfied with the two shows "Brother Says Hi" and "Brother Overcomes a Thousand Thorns ." This can be seen in the speed at which tickets sold out for the fan meetings of the artists from these two shows, consistently selling out in a short time, such as the fan meetings of Soobin, Neko Le, Tang Phuc, Duong Domic, Hung Huynh, Anh Tu Atus…

Most recently, there was the fancon 2025 - 30 Years I'm Still Here by rapper Dinh Tien Dat, which took place on the evening of September 28th. Fancon is a portmantein of "fan meeting" and "concert," referring to an event that combines both types. Following that will be RHYMeeting by rapper Rhymastic on October 19th.
Although the 2024 "Beautiful Sisters Riding the Wind" event only had one official concert, it led the way in the number of fan meetings. After the show ended, female artists such as Ngoc Anh, Toc Tien, Ngoc Thanh Tam, Ngoc Phuoc, Dong Anh Quynh… quickly organized fan meet-and-greet events. Not stopping at solo meet-ups, these female artists also organized group events. For example, the "Lan Gia Bui Toc " fancon of the "beautiful sisters" Bui Lan Huong, Ai Phuong, Thao Trang, Maitinhvi, Hau Hoang, Dong Anh Quynh… held its third event, with tickets selling out in just 3 minutes. Meanwhile, Kieu Anh, Xuan Nghi, Chau Tuyet Van, and Mie also delighted fans with their individual fancon events.

International artists such as Jisoo from BlackPink, Tiffany Young from SNSD, and Thai actors have also held fan meetings to meet their fans in Vietnam.
Due to their small scale, fan meeting tickets are quite affordable for most audiences, while the opportunity to interact with the artists up close is also a major draw. Despite the small size, artists are very willing to spend and invest in the performances at these events. For example, Toc Tien chose a circus venue for her fan meeting, resulting in impressive aerial performances and a visually stunning effect. Furthermore, this model is superior to a general concert in that the audience gets to see their idols perform more, instead of having to "share" the stage like in a concert. These events not only feature performances but also include opportunities for interaction and sharing between the two sides, thus bridging the gap between artists and fans. In particular, each ticket category offers specific benefits in terms of access and interaction with the artists.

When "anyone can hold a fan meeting"
On the other hand, this model is also witnessing the "encroachment" of KOLs (Key Opinion Leaders), which has generated much controversy. The recent peak of this controversy is the fact that ticket prices for KOL fan meetings are equivalent to or even higher than those of professional artists' fan meetings. For example, a popular social media couple recently planned a fan meeting (before it was canceled) with ticket prices reaching 2.8 million VND – significantly higher than many artists' fan meetings, while most KOL events are sponsored.
At a recent fan meeting of a travel blogger, many pointed out that the compensation for collaborators (who are also fans) was lower than the legally mandated minimum wage, but was "disguised" with flowery language such as "opportunity to meet in person," "standing alongside the idol," etc. From this, many opinions suggest that if not vigilant, fans can easily be exploited for similar events.
The phenomenon of "anyone can hold a fan meeting" has led to chaos, as attendees aren't necessarily fans, and event organizers aren't necessarily idols. Many exploit this to boost their own fame and pique public curiosity. For example, within a short period, two TikTokers held fan meetings at... cafes. Initially, these events were free, but soon after, tickets were sold, and in some cases, attendees were even kicked out due to insufficient seating.
From the above incidents, it can be seen that although fan meetings are a way to bring celebrities and their fans closer together, if they continue to develop explosively and without control, they can easily be exploited, causing participants to not only receive no value but also suffer greater losses and damages.
According to the recent report "Overview of Vietnam's Digital Music Industry 2024-2025" by a research team from RMIT University Vietnam, the vibrant activity of passionate fans (superfans) is having a significant impact on the country's music industry. With over 75% of music consumption still focused on domestic products, superfans (especially Gen Z) play a crucial role in boosting artists' popularity through actively promoting their idols, purchasing tickets for concerts, fan meetings, and more.
