Localities are about to complete grading high school graduation exams.

As planned, the exam results will be announced to all candidates nationwide at 8:00 AM on July 17th.

SOME PLACES HAVE ALREADY FINISHED THE GRADES.

To date, some localities with a relatively small number of candidates have completed grading the 2024 high school graduation exams and sent the data to the Ministry of Education and Training for comparison. These localities have commented that the answer key and scoring rubric for this year's high school graduation exams are clear and facilitate the grading process.

Candidates taking the 2024 high school graduation exam will know their provisional results on the morning of July 17th.

In Phu Tho , the grading of exam papers has been completed for both multiple-choice and essay questions. Mr. Phung Quoc Lap, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training, said that the next step will be to compare scores (no later than July 14th) and prepare the infrastructure and conditions to be ready to announce the exam results on July 17th as planned by the Ministry of Education and Training.

The Hai Duong Department of Education and Training also announced that the locality completed grading the 2024 high school graduation exam papers on July 8th and is implementing necessary tasks to be ready to announce the exam results according to the scheduled date. In Quang Tri, the head of the Department of Education and Training stated that the grading of essay-based exams was completed on July 7th; the grading of multiple-choice exams is expected to be completed on July 12th.

In Hanoi , which has the largest number of candidates and the most exam papers in the country, the Department of Education and Training had to mobilize nearly 600 officials and teachers from high schools in the area to participate in grading the exams to ensure that the grading process and announcement of exam results to candidates were completed on time as stipulated by the Ministry of Education and Training.

In Vinh Phuc, Mr. Trinh Van Mung, Head of the Examination Department of the Department of Education and Training, informed that the exam grading process took place during the first two weeks of July. The grading committee mobilized over 169 officials, teachers, and staff members to perform the task. It is expected that the grading process will be completed before July 15th, after which the department will send the data to the Ministry of Education and Training for comparison.

In Bac Ninh, the Department of Education and Training announced that, according to the plan, by July 14th at the latest, they will send all exam results data to the Ministry of Education and Training, including a CD containing all the scores for both multiple-choice and essay exams.

Ms. To Thi Anh, Deputy Director of the Yen Bai Department of Education and Training, said that this year the province mobilized 107 officials, teachers, and staff to participate in grading the essay exams, including 86 high school teachers directly involved in grading. The head of the essay grading committee established a verification team to conduct verification grading. In addition, an inspection team was formed, consisting of 5 people inspecting the essay grading and 2 inspectors for the multiple-choice grading. At least 3 provincial police officers supervised the entire grading process at each grading committee, alongside a 24/7 camera system.

WHAT DOES THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND TRAINING WANT TO NOTE?

Mr. Huynh Van Chuong, Director of the Quality Management Department, Ministry of Education and Training, stated: For Literature, the only subject tested in essay format, to ensure fair grading among examiners and minimize lenient or strict grading, the Ministry of Education and Training requires localities to strictly implement the regulations, such as: all examiners must discuss the answer key and grading guidelines before grading the exam papers; and at least 10 papers must be graded together before conducting two independent rounds of grading.

During the independent two-round grading process, in parallel with the grading by the grading teams, the grading committee also has a verification team; this team checks at least 5% of the essay papers that have been graded in the first or second round according to the schedule to re-verify the grading quality among the examiners. "At the end of each grading session or when deemed necessary, the head of the verification team compiles and reports the results of the verification grading and makes recommendations to the head of the essay grading committee to apply appropriate measures to ensure that the grading is fair, objective, and serious," Mr. Chuong noted.

After the exam results are announced, the Departments of Education and Training compare the average scores of the individual subjects and exams with the average scores of the corresponding subjects in the 12th grade.

Similarly, according to Mr. Chuong, the current multiple-choice test grading process is clearly defined in each stage and step, with strict supervision from inspectors. All multiple-choice answer sheets (students' work) must be graded by machine using the same specialized software provided by the Ministry of Education and Training.

"In the grading process, every step is important, so examiners must strictly adhere to the regulations and procedures for grading multiple-choice tests; absolutely no improvisation is allowed. If any issues arise, they must immediately report them to the national steering committee for consideration and handling according to regulations," Mr. Chuong emphasized.

According to Mr. Chuong, up to this point, the grading process in localities is still proceeding according to regulations, and there have been no special situations that the national steering committee has had to deal with.

According to the requirements of the Ministry of Education and Training, the organization of exam grading; the summary of grading work; the submission of exam results data to the Ministry of Education and Training; and the comparison of exam results will be completed no later than 5 PM on July 14th. The exam results will be announced at exactly 8 AM on July 17th. All localities must be prepared with the necessary infrastructure and conditions to ensure a smooth announcement of exam scores.

In addition to localities announcing exam scores for their candidates on the exam management system, Thanh Nien Newspaper will also be provided with data on the 2024 high school graduation exam scores by the Ministry of Education and Training to facilitate the lookup of exam scores for candidates.

Is it possible to compare exam results with academic performance?

Director Huynh Van Chuong stated that the comparison of exam results and academic performance is stipulated in the examination regulations. Accordingly, this process is carried out annually.

After the exam results are announced, the Departments of Education and Training will compare the results according to Clause 8, Article 58 of the current exam regulations: "Publicly announce the score distribution of the exams and component subjects, compare the average exam scores of the exams and component subjects with the average scores of the corresponding subjects in the 12th grade of schools in the province"; based on Clause 7, Article 60 of the exam regulations, which stipulates that high schools will "compare the average exam scores of the exams and component subjects with the average scores of the corresponding subjects in the 12th grade of the school's students as a basis for reforming teaching and learning in the school".
