"This is the cultural depth," Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung said at the first international conference on rural tourism of the United Nations Tourism Organization (UN Tourism) in Quang Nam on December 10.

According to him, tourists want to experience and explore the beauty of life, the friendly and hospitable Vietnamese people. Vietnam, with 70% of the population living in rural areas, is identified as "a potential land for developing agricultural and rural tourism".

For sustainable development, he believes that we must start from indigenous culture, preserve the cultural identity of each village, thereby forming products and improving product quality. Vietnam has successfully built rural tourism products in some places, with community tourism products, ecology, traditional craft villages and cuisine.

However, agricultural and rural tourism in Vietnam still faces many challenges and difficulties because the villages are located in remote areas. To attract visitors, it is necessary to solve a series of problems including infrastructure, policies, product innovation as well as ensuring unique and typical features.

Another solution is to apply information technology and digital transformation to connect villages and promote the image of the country and destinations through this tool. "There is only one way through information technology, training human resources in a more systematic and professional manner, not spontaneously like in the past," said Mr. Hung.

Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long said rural tourism is becoming increasingly popular and developing. This model promotes economic transformation, reduces the development gap between rural and urban areas, and promotes and honors unique local values.

"Developing local specialties, craft villages, developing service economy, rural tourism on the basis of preserving and promoting local culture", Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long said about one of the orientations for rural tourism.

Many localities in Vietnam have exploited their strengths and developed a diverse and attractive system of rural destinations. Many of these tourist villages have been recognized according to ASEAN criteria. In particular, Tan Hoa (Quang Binh), Thai Hai (Thai Nguyen), and Tra Que (Quang Nam) were honored as the Best Tourist Villages by the United Nations Tourism Organization.

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized the need to promote international cooperation and strengthen public-private partnerships in rural tourism development. "Vietnam is ready to continue to actively cooperate with the international community and the United Nations Tourism Organization to implement new initiatives and approaches to develop rural tourism under the motto 'one village, one product'; 'one person is a tourism ambassador'; 'one locality - one unique tourism product'," said the Deputy Prime Minister.
