According to information from the Vietnam National Tourism Administration (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) on February 3rd, during the Lunar New Year holiday of the Year of the Snake 2025, the tourism industry is expected to experience strong growth with approximately 12.5 million domestic visitors, a 19% increase compared to the same period in 2024.
During the 9 days of the Lunar New Year holiday, many localities recorded a high increase in the number of tourists, led by Ho Chi Minh City with an estimated 2.1 million visitors (a 16.7% increase); total revenue from tourism is estimated at approximately 7,690 billion VND, a 17.4% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Following closely behind are Hanoi with approximately 1 million visitors (a 6% increase) and total revenue from tourism estimated at 3,530 billion VND, a 7.85% increase compared to the same period in 2024; Quang Ninh with 969,000 visitors; Ba Ria - Vung Tau with 869,433 visitors; and Khanh Hoa with 825,195 visitors…
In late January and early February 2025, the number of international visitors to Vietnam also increased significantly thanks to favorable visa policies and effective promotional strategies of localities. Destinations such as Quang Ninh, Da Nang, Quang Nam, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Kien Giang, and Hue recorded a strong increase in the number of international visitors.
To meet the travel needs of tourists and residents during the Lunar New Year holiday, airlines have increased the number of flights, including night flights. It is estimated that domestic airlines have provided approximately over 6.9 million seats on international and domestic routes, averaging 227,000 seats per day, a 4% increase compared to the 2024 Lunar New Year.
Besides land and air travel, cruise tourism has also seen remarkable development. Da Nang welcomed approximately 1,800 international tourists on the Crystal Symphony and Silver Dawn cruise ships, while Quang Ninh welcomed four large cruise ships with 6,000 passengers and 4,000 crew members.
Notably, this year's Tet holiday tourism market has seen many train tour packages on routes such as Hanoi - Lao Cai, Quang Binh, or Ho Chi Minh City - Nha Trang, Hue, Da Nang... Vietnam Railways has launched the "Spring Train" offering many exciting experiences: celebrating New Year's Eve on the train with a countdown party, participating in folk games, and enjoying typical Tet dishes... The railway industry has proactively increased the number of trains on the North-South route as well as local trains to serve the travel needs during the 2025 Lunar New Year.
Tourist accommodation establishments nationwide have proactively renovated and prepared facilities and personnel to serve tourists during the Tet holiday. Average occupancy rates at some destinations are quite high, including Sa Pa (Lao Cai) at an estimated 90-95%; Kien Giang (73.4%); Ho Chi Minh City (65%); Hue City (63%); Phu Yen (62%), Da Nang (50%)... In general, room prices have increased slightly by 5-10%, but there have been no instances of rooms being fully booked, price gouging, or selling rooms at prices different from the listed price.
During the Lunar New Year holiday, many travel companies (Hanoitourist, Saigontourist, Vietravel, Benthanhtourist, etc.) launched numerous attractive tour programs, both domestic and international, with diverse promotional offers. International tours to Northeast Asia (China, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, etc.), Southeast Asia (Thailand, Singapore, etc.), Europe, and the United States continued to attract Vietnamese tourists.
