How to identify and avoid scams through Deepfake videos.

Báo Quốc TếBáo Quốc Tế08/07/2023

Online fraud and scams involving impersonating police officers, bank employees, family members, etc., using Deepfake technology to steal assets are becoming increasingly common.

Deepfake is an artificial intelligence technology that allows the creation of fake videos , images, and audio with a high degree of realism. Therefore, you need to understand how to recognize Deepfake videos to avoid being scammed and to identify misinformation.

Check facial movements

One of the most easily recognizable signs of a fake video is unnatural eye movement and a lack of blinking. Deepfake technology still has limitations; it cannot completely simulate the natural blinking of a human being or accurately reproduce eye movements.

Additionally, you can identify fake Deepfake videos through facial expressions that don't match the content, skin color, hair, and teeth that don't resemble reality, or the appearance of strange lighting due to the use of artificial intelligence for reconstruction.

Sound quality

You can identify fake videos created by Deepfake technology through the sound, as this technology often focuses more on recreating images and videos. Pay attention to the mouth movements when the person in the video speaks, to check if the sound matches the image.

Caller's posture

Currently, Deepfake technology cannot perfectly replicate human movements and postures; sometimes the caller in the video will appear in "strange" or unnatural poses. For example, they might look awkward, or their head and body orientation might be inconsistent in the video.

With the rapid development of artificial intelligence, it's not difficult to create a Deepfake video to impersonate someone else and commit fraud, as it exploits users' fear and lack of knowledge. Therefore, users need to equip themselves with basic knowledge to prevent these scams and should not trust calls, messages, or emails with suspicious content. If you detect any signs of fraud, you should contact the authorities directly to verify the information and report it to the nearest police station.
