Automated immigration gates are now in place at all four terminals at Changi Airport, Singapore. The automated immigration lanes at the airport are called the Automated Border Control System (ABCS), and are located at the passenger lobby of each terminal.
During the entire check-in process, airport security staff will monitor and assist. Visitors can learn about the requirements and step-by-step instructions for automatic entry to speed up the check-in process. If done correctly, the entry process will take less than a minute. Entering through customs will take about 15-30 minutes depending on the number of passengers at the airport.
According to the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority of Singapore (ICA), manual immigration counters at all checkpoints will be gradually replaced by 800 automated lanes using ABCS from the first quarter of this year.
To enter the country via the automatic lane, visitors need to prepare a passport with at least 6 months validity. Vietnamese visitors are exempt from visa when traveling to Singapore, with a stay of less than 30 days.
Since May, Singapore has allowed citizens of all countries to enter the country via the automated lanes without prior registration. Previously, visitors had to fill in an online entry declaration in English via the ICA website at least three days before departure.
Automatic entry instructions
There are 6 automatic entry operations.
Step 1: The traveler holds the passport and plane ticket in hand, takes off the hat and glasses. The traveler opens the passport page with personal information and puts it into the scanner.
Step 2: Remove your passport from the scanner when prompted.
Step 3: Insert the barcoded ticket into the scanner, similar to steps 1 and 2.
Step 4: The immigration gate opens automatically, and visitors proceed to the biometric scanner.
Step 5: Scan fingerprints and facial recognition according to the instructions on the device.
Current fingerprint scanning technology cannot accurately read fingerprints that are blurred, scarred, too wet or dry, and visitors may be asked to repeat the process.
Step 6: Complete immigration procedures.
Note when entering automatically
Visitors are not allowed to take photos or film in the immigration area.
Visitors must remove sunglasses, hats, masks, and head-mounted headphones to avoid obstructing facial and iris recognition.
Visitors should not wear colored or patterned contact lenses to avoid inconvenience during immigration procedures.
At the departure area, the terminals also arrange automatic exit lanes with similar procedures to entry.
In 2023, the traffic of Vietnamese passengers to and from Changi International Airport ranked 9th in the top 10 international passenger markets to this airport.
