Hanoi – After Doan Van Hau missed a penalty, Hanoi Police narrowly avoided conceding a goal and then came from behind to beat SLNA 2-1 in Round 9 of the V-League 2023.

Playing at their home ground, Hang Day Stadium, and continuing their winning streak of three consecutive matches, CAHN pushed forward aggressively from the start, putting significant pressure on SLNA's goal. In the 5th minute, the capital city team had a chance to open the scoring when Gustavo Henrique was fouled inside SLNA's penalty area. Doan Van Hau took responsibility for the penalty kick. His left-footed shot deceived goalkeeper Nguyen Van Viet, but the ball hit the post. A teammate rushed in for the rebound but it went over the crossbar.

Seven minutes after Van Hau's missed opportunity, CAHN unexpectedly conceded a goal. From an attack down the right wing, center-back Que Ngoc Hai delivered a perfect cross for Nguyen Trong Hoang to leap and head the ball into the net, opening the scoring.

Before the match, SLNA was considered the underdog due to a series of draws or losses, and had fallen close to the relegation zone. Therefore, their opening goal was like a cold shower for CAHN, who were full of momentum. In the remaining minutes of the first half, the home team launched an attack. They unleashed a total of 11 shots in the first 45 minutes, almost double that of their opponents. However, young goalkeeper Van Viet played excellently, making several saves for SLNA.

Just two minutes into the second half, SLNA launched a quick counter-attack. Xuan Tien passed to Soladio, who was running down the right wing, and Soladio fired a shot past goalkeeper Do Sy Huy. However, the referees disallowed the goal, ruling that the visiting team's foreign player was offside. Nevertheless, slow-motion replays showed Soladio was behind CAHN's last defender when Xuan Tien passed the ball. If the goal had been allowed, the lead would have been doubled, potentially crushing CAHN's fighting spirit.

After narrowly avoiding conceding a second goal, the home team continued to press forward. In the 54th minute, they found an equalizer thanks to a moment of brilliance from Le Van Do. The midfielder, who had just participated in the SEA Games 32, unleashed a quick volley from just outside the penalty area, sending the ball just wide of the post after a cross from Ho Tan Tai on the right wing. Goalkeeper Van Viet dived to his fullest extent but couldn't reach the ball to save SLNA.

The match then became somewhat evenly contested. In the 66th minute, Que Ngoc Hai made a mistake leading to the decisive goal. The SLNA central defender headed the ball towards his own goal to clear a cross from the right wing by CAHN. Goalkeeper Van Viet pushed the ball away, saving his captain from an own goal. But striker Jhon Clay was there in time to fire the ball into the top corner of the net, sealing a 2-1 victory for CAHN.

The victory helped CAHN climb to second place in the table with 18 points, one point behind leaders Thanh Hoa, but also having played one more match. In round 10 on May 30th, they will host Khanh Hoa .
