"I'm interested in teaching, but so many people are discouraging me. Is the profession so dangerous that they're trying to stop me? These days, tutoring is banned, and I wonder if I'll lose my livelihood. I'm hesitant about that..."
A question regarding the "hot" issue of tutoring and extra classes was posed by a student from a high school in Binh Duong to teachers during the 2025 Exam Season Counseling program, which took place this morning, February 16th, at the Binh Duong Provincial Convention and Exhibition Center, Thu Dau Mot City.

Ms. Hoang Thanh Tu, Deputy Head of the Information and Communication Department at the University of Science (Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City), considered this a good question. Ms. Thanh Tu explained that when choosing a field of study, students often receive advice from those around them – family, teachers, and friends. For example, "Don't study this field, our teachers are very poor, why bother?" Or a friend might comment, "I think you're too impulsive and hot-tempered; teaching isn't suitable for you."
However, according to Master Thanh Tu, in the face of such advice, students must analyze why they are considered "unsuitable" according to others' comments. Students themselves must assess and understand their own abilities to determine if they are truly suited to the field of study, why they chose it, what they like about it, and whether they can change themselves to meet the requirements of the field.
Responding to male students' concerns about job opportunities, economic conditions when choosing a career in teaching, and the difficulties of the profession, Master Thanh Tú said, "Every profession has its opportunities, difficulties, and challenges. There is no such thing as an easy job with a high salary."
"We often hear that 'teaching is the noblest profession among noble professions.' Therefore, the teaching profession is extremely important. In the future, there will be increasingly more government policies to provide material and spiritual support to those working in the teaching field so they can focus on teaching," said Master Thanh Tú.
At the same time, according to the Deputy Head of the Information and Communication Department of the University of Science (Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City), the teaching profession will receive much attention in the future from parents, society, businesses, and investors in the field of education... so that teachers can work with peace of mind.
The teachers in the counseling team in Binh Duong shared their perspectives on tutoring and supplementary classes with the students.

In summary, Master Thanh Tu advises male students, when choosing a career, to first consider their desires and dreams. Secondly, what is their purpose in studying this field? Thirdly, do they have the ability to meet the requirements of the field? And finally, they must make their own decision after considering the advice of those around them.
Circular 29 on supplementary teaching opens up further directions for both teachers and students.
That was the opinion of Dr. Huynh Tan Loi, Head of the Environmental Science PhD Program at Van Lang University, in response to a student's concerns at the Exam Season Counseling program.
Dr. Loi shared that he was once a student who was advised by everyone to pursue a career in education, but he chose to study engineering instead. However, he eventually became a lecturer, standing on the podium and sharing his knowledge with students.
The 2025 Exam Season Counseling Program received many excellent questions from students.

Recently, Dr. Loi has had extensive contact with students and middle and high school teachers while training them on integrating environmental issues into teaching activities at the secondary level. This shows that when teachers pursue a career in education, they always have opportunities to enhance their professional skills in a more in-depth way. For students to achieve admirable results and win scientific research awards, teachers must also improve and make significant efforts...
"Currently, regarding Circular 29 of the Ministry of Education and Training regulating tutoring, I see it as an opportunity to open up new avenues for students to find more effective learning methods and for teachers to improve teaching quality. Tutoring is more strictly managed and registered as a business, thus ensuring higher quality education for students. In my opinion, this is not a barrier to the development of teachers at all levels, from primary to secondary and high school," Dr. Loi stated.
