Commitment to responsible tourism

Việt NamViệt Nam08/12/2024

"Bring back nothing but pictures. Leave nothing but footprints" is a slogan frequently mentioned by young travelers today. This was also the message emphasized by the Standing Vice Chairman of the Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee, Nguyen Van Thi, in his speech at the ceremony announcing trekking tours in the mountainous districts of Thanh Hoa province, held on December 7th.

Commitment to responsible tourism

At the ceremony, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced 12 trekking routes in the districts of Bá Thước, Quan Hóa, and Thường Xuân.

Previously, Thanh Hoa province had developed and launched many unique and attractive tourist routes, stimulating the exploratory spirit of tourists. Alongside this, it has perfected tourism products with high entertainment value and top-quality accommodation and resorts.

This is an effort by Thanh Hoa's tourism industry to diversify tourism products to increase attractiveness to tourists, gradually realizing targets regarding the number of visitors and revenue, and making Thanh Hoa a key national tourism destination...

To meet sales targets, many businesses adopt a pragmatic approach: readily catering to tourists' desires, as long as they are willing to spend money. This is why some tourist destinations are devastated, resources are exploited to the point of depletion, and the greenhouse effect and waste pollution become serious environmental problems.

Rejecting short-sighted and resource-destroying tourism practices, the tourism industry has chosen an approach based on green tourism principles and sustainable development. The mindset that once tourists pay, they have the right to do things that harm or even distort local culture will not be accepted in Thanh Hoa.

For this reason, Thanh Hoa has recently launched many tourism products rich in culture and close to nature; tourist areas and destinations are striving for green transformation and exploiting cultural elements; and resources at destinations are being preserved and regenerated.

We have long talked about how responsible tourism can boost economic growth, ensure environmental integrity, promote local values and respect for local culture, and create tourism products with higher quality, cultural content, ethical values, and experiential value. However, for this to become a reality, there must be a clear mindset, real action, and especially commitment from the government, businesses, and the people.

The message emphasized by the Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Nguyen Van Thi, at the ceremony announcing the trekking tour in the mountainous districts of Thanh Hoa province was not just a trendy statement, but a commitment to seriousness in Thanh Hoa province's approach to tourism.
