Located along National Highway 1A at the foot of Hai Van Pass, Lang Co in Thua Thien - Hue province boasts a long beach with white sand and clear blue water.
Lang Co town is located more than 60 km from Hue city and about 25 km from Da Nang , in Phu Loc district. Nestled between a branch of the Truong Son mountain range extending to the sea, bordered on one side by Hai Van Pass and on the other by Phu Gia Pass, near Chan May port, Lang Co appears as a beautiful and long stretch of sand dunes. The Lang Co area also boasts tropical forests.
Lang Co Bay, stretching 42.5 km, boasts clear blue waters, fine white sand, and a diverse ecosystem. It is one of the most famous scenic spots and tourist destinations in Thua Thien Hue province, considered a "paradise on earth" by King Khai Dinh. In 2009, Lang Co Bay was voted one of the "Most Beautiful Bays in the World " by Worldbays.
Beautiful season
The best time to explore Lang Co Bay is from April to early August.
Although located near Da Nang, Lang Co is still north of Hai Van Pass, influenced by the northern climate and experiencing distinct winter and summer seasons. The average annual temperature is 24-25 degrees Celsius, with winter temperatures potentially dropping to 10 degrees Celsius and summer temperatures reaching nearly 40 degrees Celsius. However, due to the presence of the large Cau Hai lagoon, the area is less affected by storms, floods, and hot, dry westerly winds compared to other parts of Thua Thien Hue province.
Lang Co also has a rainy season from September to December, with the two months with the heaviest rainfall being October and November.
Move
Lang Co is located along National Highway 1A, right at the foot of Hai Van Pass, making it convenient to travel to by road, whether by private car or bus.
If traveling by train or plane, tourists should choose Da Nang as their destination. The travel time from the airport/train station to Lang Co is approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. If traveling to Hue, the travel time will be double.
Round-trip airfare ranges from 2 million to 5 million VND, depending on the time of year. The fastest train ticket costs around 2 million VND.
Accommodation
Lang Co boasts a diverse range of guesthouses, hotels, and resorts catering to various types of travelers. Budget-friendly hotels are located along National Highway 1A, with prices starting from 300,000 VND per night. Some highly-rated options on booking websites include BH Villa Lang Co, Ha Phuong Homestay, and Anh Dung Guesthouse.
For more upscale accommodations, there's Lang Co Beach Resort. Located right on National Highway 1A in the town center, this 4-star resort boasts a large swimming pool and basic amenities for guests. Room rates at Lang Co Beach Resort range from 700,000 VND per night, depending on the time of year.
Located approximately 20 km from the town center are two 5-star resorts, Angsana Lăng Cô and Banyan Tree Lăng Cô, on the Cảnh Dương beach. Both resorts offer high-end amenities such as large swimming pools, golf courses, gyms, and spas.
Angsana Lăng Cô boasts 229 rooms ranging in size from 52 m2 to 179 m2, with over 100 rooms featuring private pools, starting from 3 million VND per night. The interiors are designed in a traditional yet modern style, using eco-friendly materials such as bamboo, rattan, and palm, creating a feeling reminiscent of traditional Hue houses.
Located next to Angsana Lang Co is Banyan Tree Lang Co. This is one of the most luxurious resorts in Central Vietnam, with 72 villas, all with private pools, ranging from one to three bedrooms. Room rates start from 8 million VND per night. Banyan Tree focuses on biodiversity-based activities and relaxing experiences for guests.

Bach Ma National Park
Bach Ma National Park is located about 30 km from the center of Lang Co town. The national park's terrain consists of hills and slopes. Bach Ma Peak, at 1,450 m, is an ideal destination for many tourists who enjoy trekking. If you have time, you can trek the entire route in 2-3 days, or combine trekking with a car ride to the summit in about 6-7 hours.
The Hai Vong Dai viewpoint at the summit, the Do Quyen waterfall, the Ngu Ho (Five Lakes) with its five most beautiful lakes in the Bach Ma forest, and the clear, cool streams... are must-see locations on your trekking journey. You can spend the night outside the garden gate, in an old French-style villa on the way to the summit, or camp within the national park area.

Hai Van Pass
Hai Van Pass, built in 1826, is a military fortress guarding the summit of Hai Van Pass, which also marks the geographical boundary between Thua Thien Hue province and Da Nang city. Hai Van Pass spans a mountain range extending into the sea from the Truong Son Mountains. The summit of Hai Van Pass is about 15 km from Lang Co. This is also a beautiful viewpoint overlooking Lang Co Bay. Visitors can stroll around for a morning or afternoon, stopping for coffee at the summit.
Lap An Lagoon
The lagoon is located at the foot of Phu Gia Pass, about 5 km from the center of Lang Co town, surrounded by Bach Ma Mountain. Visitors should go to the lagoon early in the morning, when the tide is low, to see the path that cuts through the water. This was also a favorite fishing spot of King Khai Dinh and King Bao Dai every summer. Near the lagoon is a small fishing village with local seafood restaurants, an ideal place for lunch and to explore Lang Co's specialties.

Don Ca Arch Bridge
The Don Ca arch bridge is located at the foot of the Hai Van Pass. Around 1881-1885, the first railway line in Vietnam, 70 km long, connecting Saigon and My Tho, was started by the French. By the early 20th century, the line continued to be built through the Hai Van Pass, with a total length of 28 km and 18 bridges, including the Don Ca arch bridge. The bridge was inaugurated around 1906, featuring four arches, built primarily of stone, with a height of 20 meters and a length of approximately 100 meters. Currently, the bridge is of significant importance on the North-South railway line and is a popular check-in spot for young people.
Although not located on the main highway, the bridge is quite easy to find. From the city center of Hue or Da Nang, head towards Hai Van North station, near Hai Van Pass. From Hai Van North station, continue for about 1 km.

The beaches
Lang Co Bay boasts many beautiful beaches, with Canh Duong, Lang Co, and Binh An being the three most outstanding. At Canh Duong beach, sunrise is the most beautiful time of day. Visitors can admire the sun gradually rising from the horizon, embracing the crescent-shaped beach, its rays reflecting off the sea and creating a sparkling effect. There are also many camping and tent rental services available on the beach. Visitors can also rent boats from local fishermen to explore the waters at the foot of Hai Van Pass.
What to eat
Seafood, both farmed and caught right in Lang Co Bay, is abundant and of high quality. A special feature of Lang Co is that you can stop and eat at any small roadside eatery, especially in the area at the bottom of Lang Co slope. A hearty bowl of seafood porridge for breakfast costs from 25,000 VND, or a nutritious lunch costs around 200,000 to 300,000 VND per person.
There are several famous and delicious seafood options here, such as oysters, shrimp, squid, and abalone. Some popular places include Viet Long Floating Restaurant, Minh Tam Restaurant, Be Than Restaurant, Anh Phi Restaurant, and Vietpearl. Additionally, the floating restaurants in Lap An Lagoon are also a good choice for tourists.
Note
The Hai Van Pass tunnel is only for cars, so if tourists ride motorbikes up the pass, they will have to take the pass road back to Lang Co, or transport their motorbikes on a shuttle bus.
Some beaches in Lang Co lack warning signs and permanent lifeguards, so when swimming, you should avoid deep water areas to ensure your safety.
There aren't many entertainment options in Lang Co in the evenings, as it's quite far from the city center.
