The 17th Red Sunday blood donation program will take place on December 29th at Hanoi University of Science and Technology. The program is organized by Tien Phong Newspaper, in coordination with the Central Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, and the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of various provinces and cities.
First organized in 2009, the Red Sunday program received 96 units of blood. After 16 years, the scale of implementation has expanded to more than 50 provinces and cities, and the amount of blood received has increased many times over (55,000 - 60,000 units of blood/year). From 2025, the program will hold launch ceremonies in Hanoi and a number of provinces and cities in accordance with the blood needs of local medical facilities.
According to the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, the Institute and hospitals estimate that approximately 80,000 units of blood are needed for emergency and treatment purposes in the two months before, during, and after the Lunar New Year. The Red Sunday blood donation program contributes to ensuring sufficient and safe blood for patients during periods of potential blood shortages.
