BPO - The intersection of National Highway 14 and Phan Boi Chau Street in Tan Binh Ward, Dong Xoai City, has long posed a potential traffic safety risk. In fact, numerous traffic accidents resulting in fatalities have occurred there. Therefore, residents are requesting that the authorities promptly install a traffic light system to reduce the occurrence of accidents.

To turn from National Highway 14 onto Phan Boi Chau Street in Tan Binh Ward, Dong Xoai City, many vehicles have to stop in the middle of the road for a long time before they can proceed.

Between 6-7 AM and 5-6 PM daily, traffic density at this intersection is high due to workers commuting to and from the Dong Xoai Industrial Zones I, II, and III, as well as students from Dong Xoai High School going to and from school. Because there are no traffic lights, traffic flows haphazardly, creating a complex and dangerous situation. Ms. Lo Thi Tinh, a resident of Ward 1, Tien Thanh Commune, Dong Xoai City, who sells bread at the intersection, said: “Accidents and collisions between motorbikes happen frequently. The cause is that students from Dong Xoai High School turn onto Phan Boi Chau Street from National Highway 14, while workers from the Dong Xoai Industrial Zones I and II go straight, with no one yielding to anyone, leading to collisions.”

Mr. Dinh Van Bang, residing in Tan Thien ward, Dong Xoai city, who is present in this area every morning to pump wastewater from the Dong Xoai city drainage system to the company for treatment, said: “This location is very complicated and dangerous because the intersection is low-lying like a basin. Vehicles traveling from Chon Thanh to Dong Xoai always go at high speeds because of the downhill slope. Especially many heavy trucks and container trucks do not slow down, leading to a very high risk of traffic accidents.”

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Danh, residing in Ward 4, Tien Thanh neighborhood, who works as a motorbike repairman at the intersection, said: “To travel from National Highway 14 to Phan Boi Chau Street, many vehicles have to stop and wait in the middle of the highway for a long time. In some cases, carelessness, lack of observation, and reckless crossing have resulted in collisions and accidents. In fact, I have witnessed many accidents here that resulted in fatalities. Therefore, I request that the relevant authorities install a traffic light system soon.”

Given the complex traffic situation at the intersection of National Highway 14 and Phan Boi Chau Street in Tan Binh Ward, the leadership of the Traffic Police Department directed the Dong Phu Traffic Police Station to regularly conduct patrols, inspections, and handle violations at this location. Simultaneously, the Provincial Traffic Police Department issued a document requesting the Road Management Office IV.2, Road Management Area IV, and the Vietnam Road Administration to install a traffic signal system. The two units and relevant agencies conducted a field survey. It is understood that the Road Management Office IV.2 has prepared the necessary documents and plans and will implement the installation of the traffic signal system at this location in 2025.

According to Official Letter No. 44/PC08-QL14 from the Traffic Police Department of Binh Phuoc Provincial Police to the Road Management Office IV.2 dated November 21, 2024, regarding the provision of traffic accident data, since 2022, this area has experienced 6 traffic accidents, resulting in 3 deaths and 7 injuries. Notably, a traffic accident occurred at approximately 4:30 AM on September 4, 2024, between a tractor-trailer and a motorcycle carrying two young men, resulting in one death and one injury. The deceased victim was Mr. NDH (born in 2004) residing in Tuy An district, Phu Yen province. The injured person was Mr. HVC (born in 2002) residing in Duc Hanh commune, Bu Gia Map district. At the time of the incident, H and C were riding a motorcycle with license plate 47L1-369.88 on National Highway 14 in the direction of Chơn Thành - Đồng Xoài. Upon reaching the aforementioned location, they unexpectedly collided with a truck with license plate 93H-040.96 towing a trailer with license plate 51R-404.02, which was traveling from Phan Bội Châu Street onto National Highway 14. The powerful impact caused the motorcycle to become trapped under the truck. H died afterward. C sustained serious injuries and was taken to the hospital for emergency treatment.

Another traffic accident occurred at this same intersection at 6:45 PM on January 5, 2023, between a motorcycle with license plate 93P2-292.85 driven by HPH (born in 1998), residing in Hamlet 2, Minh Lap Commune, Chon Thanh Town, traveling from Chon Thanh to Dong Xoai, and a passenger car with license plate 51G-889.67 driven by NKD (born in 1982), residing in Phuoc Thien residential area, Tan Thien Ward, Dong Xoai City, traveling in the same direction from Chon Thanh to Dong Xoai, and turning onto Phan Boi Chau Street. As a result, HPH died at the Provincial General Hospital.

With the rainy season underway, traffic conditions in this area are becoming even more dangerous due to steep, slippery roads, and some sections of the road surface are damaged. We hope that the relevant authorities will soon install traffic lights to reduce the number of accidents.
