The Hai Phong City Police have issued a warning about the increasing number of online scams during the exam and admissions season, with many sophisticated methods targeting parents and students.

According to the police, recently, many people have received calls and messages from unknown phone numbers or accessed fake websites, groups, or links. After building trust and manipulating their psychology, the perpetrators will entice victims to transfer money or provide personal information to steal their assets.

Notably, these individuals are exploiting the anxiety and desire for good results in exams to carry out various fraudulent schemes.

One common tactic is impersonating education officials, teachers, or school representatives, calling to announce possible "internal admissions," "guaranteed acceptance," or "assistance in improving grades," and then requesting money transfers via bank accounts or e-wallets.

In addition, these individuals also impersonate postal workers, examination boards, or admissions agencies to notify parents and students of errors in their applications, then request personal information, OTP codes, or bank account details under the pretext of "verifying information."

Many fake Facebook and Zalo pages impersonating schools, tutoring centers, and exam preparation groups have also been created to sell fake materials, offer fictitious courses, or send advertising links claiming to contain "exam questions," "accurate answers," or "interfere with exam results."

When users access these links, their social media or bank accounts may be stolen.

In addition, these individuals also post advertisements for cheap room rentals, request deposit payments, and then cut off contact to embezzle the money.

According to the Hai Phong City Police, many individuals are now using AI technology to impersonate the voices and images of teachers or relatives in order to gain trust and lull victims into a false sense of security.

To prevent such scams, the police recommend that parents and students only check admission information and exam scores from official channels of the Ministry of Education and Training, the Department of Education and Training, or reputable news agencies.

People should absolutely not trust offers of "guaranteed passing," "score boosting," or "buying exam papers," should not provide OTP codes or bank account information to strangers, and should not access links from unknown sources.

When receiving suspicious calls or messages, parents and students should remain calm, refrain from transferring money, and immediately report the incident to the nearest police station or call 113 for prompt assistance.
