Warning of high tides and floods on rivers in the Northern and North Central regions

Tide levels along the coast of the North and North Central regions are at relatively high levels, while floods on the Lo, Cau, Thuong, and Thai Binh rivers are rising. Warnings are that rising water levels could cause flooding, flash floods, and landslides in low-lying areas and steep slopes in the North, from Thanh Hoa to Nghe An.

Currently (October 1), the tide level in the Northern and North Central coasts is relatively high. The water level in the Northern and North Central coasts is showing a slight upward trend. From October 5, the water level in the above areas will gradually decrease.

At Hon Dau station, the water level is 3.4-3.5cm high, appearing 12-15 hours daily.

At Hon Ngu station, the water level is 2.7-2.8cm high, appearing from 13-16 hours daily.

It is forecasted that the impact of high tides combined with rising water due to strong winds may cause flooding in some low-lying areas and reduce the flood drainage capacity of the river system in the region in the coming days.

Flood warning on Lo River, Thao River, Thai Binh River system, Ma River, Ca River

Currently, as of 3:00 p.m. on October 1, floods on Thao River (Lao Cai), Luc Nam River ( Bac Ninh ), Ma River (Thanh Hoa), Ca River (Nghe An) are receding; floods on Lo River (Tuyen Quang), Cau River, Thuong River (Bac Ninh), Thai Binh River (Hai Phong) are rising.

Due to the impact of upstream reservoirs and upstream floods, the water level in the downstream of the Red River at Hanoi station is rising. The water level at 1:00 p.m. on October 1 on the rivers is as follows:

On Thao River at Yen Bai station 31.80m, below alarm level 3 0.2m;

On Lo River at Tuyen Quang station 25.7m, below alarm level 3 0.3m;

On Luc Nam River at Luc Nam station 5.33m, above alarm level 2 0.03m;

On Cau River at Dap Cau station 5.75m, above alarm level 2 0.45m;

On Thuong River at Phu Lang Thuong station 5.78m, above alarm level 2 0.48m; On Thai Binh River at Pha Lai station 4.71m, below alarm level 2 0.29m;

On the Red River at Hanoi station 9.26m, below alarm level 1 0.24m;

On Ma River at Giang station 5.76m, above alarm level 2 0.26m;

On Ca River at Nam Dan station 7.32m, above alarm level 2 0.42m.

It is forecasted that in the next 12 hours, floods on Lo River, Cau River, Thuong River will continue to rise to alert level 2-3 and above alert level 3; Thai Binh River will rise above alert level 2. Floods in the downstream of Ma River, Ca River, Thao River will fall below alert level 2.

In the next 12-24 hours, floods on Cau River and Thuong River will fluctuate at alert level 3; Thai Binh River will fluctuate above alert level 2; Lo River will fall below alert level 3, Ma River and Ca River will fall below alert level 2; Thao River will fall below alert level 1.

The meteorological agency forecasts that in the next 24 hours, the flood downstream of the Red River at Hanoi station will continue to rise and fluctuate above alert level 1.

Experts warn that rising water levels could cause flooding in low-lying areas along rivers and urban areas in the Northern region, from Thanh Hoa to Nghe An; flash floods and landslides on steep slopes in the Northern mountainous region, from Thanh Hoa to Nghe An.

People need to regularly monitor weather forecasts and prepare timely prevention and response plans to minimize damage caused by natural disasters and floods.
