The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that this morning, October 2, the tropical depression in the sea east of the Philippines has strengthened into a storm, internationally named Typhoon Matmo, which will be the 11th storm in the East Sea this year.

7am this morning, mind   Typhoon Matmo is located at about 14.9 degrees north latitude and 127.8 degrees east longitude, in the sea east of the Philippines. The area near the center of the storm has strong winds of level 8, equivalent to 62 - 74 km/h, gusting to level 10. The storm is moving west-northwest at a speed of 15 - 20 km/h.

It is forecasted that by 7am tomorrow, October 3, the center of storm Matmo will be located on the eastern coastal area of ​​Luzon Island and will strengthen to level 9, gusting to level 11. It is forecasted that tomorrow evening and night, storm Matmo will enter the East Sea, becoming the 11th storm this year.

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting warns that Matmo is a strong storm, moving at a speed of 15-20 km/h, with a very wide area of ​​strong winds and large waves. Due to the influence of storm No. 10, from tomorrow afternoon, October 3, the sea area east of the northern East Sea will have winds gradually increasing to level 6-7; then increasing to level 8. The area near the storm's center will have strong winds of level 9-10, gusting to level 12, with waves 4-6 m high. The sea is very rough.

It is forecasted that on October 4-5, the northern East Sea (including Hoang Sa special zone) may be affected by strong storm winds of level 11-12, gusting to level 15.

Storm No. 11 will strengthen to level 12, causing widespread heavy rain.

After entering the East Sea, storm No. 11 (storm Mato) will continue to strengthen. It is forecasted that by 7:00 a.m. on October 5, the center of storm No. 11 will be located in the northwest sea area of ​​the northern East Sea, about 70 km northeast of Hainan Island (China), with a strength of level 12, gusting to level 15.

Storm No. 11 is likely to enter the Gulf of Tonkin and directly affect mainland Vietnam. It is forecasted that the Northern and North Central regions will have widespread heavy rain from the night of October 5 to 7.

Due to the possibility of floods and rains after storms No. 10 and No. 11 affecting mainland Vietnam, the Department of Hydrometeorology ( Ministry of Agriculture and Environment ) has postponed the 80th anniversary of the Hydrometeorology Industry's Traditional Day (scheduled to be held on the afternoon of October 3) to focus on forecasting and warning of natural disasters in the coming days.
