This information was released shortly after a large ferry carrying tourists to Cat Ba experienced a water-filled incident on the afternoon of May 26th, forcing Dong Bai ferry terminal to temporarily suspend operations.
A representative from Cat Ba Sun Co., Ltd. stated that this decision aims to support local residents and tourists visiting Cat Ba, ensuring a convenient, safe, and positive travel experience.
The new ticket prices will be in effect from today until August 31st, the peak tourist season in Northern Vietnam.
With the new fare, people will pay 50,000 VND per trip, while children under 1 meter tall will be free.
At the cable car station on Cat Hai Island, there is a large parking area spanning tens of hectares, with fees ranging from 5,000 to 10,000 VND for motorbikes and from 20,000 to 70,000 VND for cars, depending on the parking duration.
Upon arriving at Phu Long Station, visitors can use taxis, shuttle buses, or regular buses, with fares ranging from 13,000 to 50,000 VND per person depending on the type of service, to continue their journey to the center of Cat Ba town.
For many years, locals and tourists traveling to Cat Ba by ferry during peak season or weekends have faced considerable difficulties. Tourists often have to wait for hours to board the ferry. Furthermore, in unpredictable weather conditions or strong winds, the ferry service may stop without prior notice. Traveling by cable car is considered a more convenient option.
The Cat Hai - Phu Long three-wire cable car line has a total investment of over 2.2 trillion VND, is nearly 4 km long, and has a capacity of 4,500 passengers per hour. Operating since June 2020, the Cat Hai - Phu Long cable car primarily transports tourists from Cat Hai Island to the area near Cai Vieng wharf on the island, shortening travel time from approximately 20 minutes by ferry to just 9 minutes.
