What is the current status of the construction of the Hong Ngu Bridge in Dong Thap province?

According to Mr. Vo Van Quang, Deputy Commander of the project, Bien Dong Consulting and Construction Joint Stock Company (the construction contractor), the Hong Ngu bridge, upon completion, will have a greater horizontal clearance for navigation (over 5.5m) and a greater height (over 2m) compared to the old bridge.

Contractors are urgently raising the clearance of the Hong Ngu Bridge in Hong Ngu City ( Dong Thap Province ).

Construction of the bridge began in late May 2024. After four months of construction, the contractor has completed 2 out of 8 piers, 1/2 of the bridge abutments, and 21 out of 58 bored piles.

Right from the start of the project, the contractor deployed two construction teams. Simultaneously, they organized workers to work two shifts continuously when weather conditions were favorable.

"Based on the work already completed, the project's construction progress has reached 20%. In the coming period, the contractor will continue to accelerate construction and complete the assigned work as scheduled," Mr. Quang said.

According to Mr. Quang, although the work is progressing smoothly and this week the contractor began constructing the first piles in the river.

The contractor has fully prepared the manpower and equipment to construct the first pile in the river.

To accomplish this, the contractor has assembled all the necessary machinery and equipment over the past week. Simultaneously, the company has also organized workers to carry out the relevant tasks before pile driving begins.

"The Hong Ngu Bridge has 16 piles under the river, and according to calculations, the contractor will complete the project within two months."

"It is expected that in early October, after the basic construction work on this side of the bridge is completed, the contractor will continue to organize workers to carry out the work on the other side of the bridge, in An Thanh ward, Hong Ngu city," Mr. Quang informed.

Mr. Tran Van Tuan, from the consulting and supervision unit for the Hong Ngu Bridge project, assessed that the contractor has basically ensured the progress according to the planned construction schedule. However, implementation remains difficult due to land acquisition issues on the An Thanh ward side of the bridge. He also stated that the local authorities are making efforts to provide a clear site for the construction unit.

The Hong Ngu Bridge project requires the acquisition of over 1.6 hectares of land, affecting 95 households who will receive compensation.
