The bridge is located on the inter-communal road from Truong Ky to Duyet Ward. It is 13 meters long, has a single span, is 5 meters wide, and has a design load of 13 tons. Built in 1982, the bridge is currently in a very weak condition. According to the reporter's observations, one side of the railing has completely collapsed, the bridge deck is sagging causing water to accumulate, and the foundation is cracked and shows signs of subsidence.
The inter-communal road from Truong Ky to Duyet Ward is a frequently used route for residents of four communes: Vinh Long , Vinh Chap, Vinh Thai, and Vinh Tu, resulting in a high volume of people and vehicles. Therefore, the dilapidated condition of Truong Ky Bridge, which has not yet been repaired, poses a significant risk of traffic accidents.
Mr. Nguyen Van Tam, a land administration official in Vinh Tu commune, said that the bridge's damage has been occurring for about two years. On October 17, 2023, the Vinh Tu Commune People's Committee submitted a report on the damaged bridge to the Vinh Linh District People's Committee and the District's Economic and Infrastructure Department.
"The bridge is currently in a very weak condition, with the railings on both sides collapsing, posing a significant danger to people using this road. If no remedial measures are taken, the bridge could collapse at any time," the report stated.
According to Mr. Tam, while waiting for the Provincial People's Committee to allocate funds for repairing or building a new bridge, the Vinh Linh District People's Committee has issued numerous official documents requesting the Vinh Tu Commune People's Committee and the Vinh Tu Commune Police to disseminate information and encourage people to comply with traffic safety regulations. In addition, the authorities have posted signs restricting the bridge's weight limit due to its weak condition, to prevent potential collapse. However, these signs only provide general warnings and do not specify a concrete weight limit.
To ensure the safety of people and vehicles, we request that the relevant authorities promptly develop a plan and methods for repairing the bridge and direct traffic flow across it.
