Fans want Modric to stay at Real Madrid

On May 22, AS launched an online survey on Modric's future at the Bernabeu. The results showed that out of a total of 15,882 votes, 74.8% of fans wanted Real to extend Modric's contract, while only 25.2% were against.

Modric expressed his desire to continue playing at Real Madrid, while aiming to participate in the 2026 World Cup, which will take place in the US, Canada and Mexico. However, on May 22, the midfielder wrote a letter confirming his departure from the Bernabeu.

"The moment I never wanted to come has come. This Saturday (May 24), I will play my last game at the Bernabeu," Modric wrote. "Playing for Real Madrid has changed my life, both as a player and as a person. I am proud to have been part of one of the most successful periods in the history of this great club."

Modric is willing to take a pay cut to continue contributing to Real. However, the team's leadership wants to refresh the midfield with young faces, forcing Modric to find a new destination this summer.

Since joining Real in 2012 for €35 million from Tottenham, Modric has become an integral part of the Royal team's squad. He has won a series of titles, including 6 Champions League titles.

Despite turning 40 in September, Modric remains an important player for Real. According to Whoscored , Modric has created more chances per 90 minutes (0.88) than any other midfielder in the top 5 European leagues.
