Parents organize summer vacation tours for their children themselves.

Instead of sending their children to extra classes or letting them stay home playing on their phones, many parents have proactively designed summer vacation tours for their children, such as organizing colorful trips or enrolling them in self-discovery classes.

Explore nature and bond with family.

As summer vacation began, Ms. Doan Thi Thanh Giang (30 years old), residing in Thu Duc City (Ho Chi Minh City), and her husband embarked on a journey with their three young children (aged 5, 3, and 1) to explore various places. The family of five recently completed their exploration of the Central Highlands, visiting the provinces of Lam Dong, Dak Lak, Dak Nong, and Gia Lai; and are now embarking on a trip to the Mekong Delta, with destinations including Can Tho, Kien Giang, An Giang , and Soc Trang.

Working in the investment and securities field, Ms. Giang and her husband work remotely, giving them flexible hours. This makes it easy for them to organize long trips for their children. They travel by car, stopping at tourist areas, homestays, or cafes with gardens so the children can play and enjoy the scenery.

Ms. Giang shared: "Before the trip, my husband and I made a brief plan, choosing a location that was easy to get to. We both usually checked reviews on Google to find safe places where we could pitch our tents and park our car."

According to Ms. Giang, the children, especially the 5-year-old, are very excited about the trips. They can read books, memorize local specialties, the area, and landmarks of each place they visit, turning the journey into a vivid learning experience. "I see that the children are more confident, get sick less often, and are no longer dependent on air conditioning. When we return to Ho Chi Minh City, the children still like to sleep with the windows open and the fresh air. Most importantly, it strengthens family bonds. Spending time with the children, sharing, and listening to each other every day helps the whole family become closer. The children also naturally confide in their parents more," Ms. Giang said.

Similarly, Ms. Nguyen Minh Phuong (34 years old), residing in Hanoi, took her children to explore Quynh Lap beach (Nghe An) twice this summer. She is currently planning to take the children to destinations such as Thai Nguyen, Son La, Quang Binh, and Hue.

Ms. Phuong shared that every year, her family takes advantage of the summer to spend time with their children. They prioritize outdoor activities such as sleeping in tents, cooking their own meals, and driving themselves, without focusing on a fixed itinerary.

"Our family travels and enjoys ourselves on a whim. The children get to be close to nature, exposed to earth, water, fire, wind, and fresh air, which helps boost their immunity. I see that they are happy, confident, and easily adapt to new environments. My eldest child, in first grade, actively observes and explores natural phenomena, drawing interesting conclusions on her own. Once, she caught crabs at the beach, learning how they move and defend themselves. She's also become more independent, knowing how to prepare her personal belongings, helping her parents set up tents, and socializing with new friends," she recounted.

Ms. Phuong advises parents to start with short day trips before letting children sleep in tents overnight. During the hot summer months, parents should ensure their children wear hats, apply sunscreen, and drink enough water to protect their health.

Nguyen Ba Minh Dang, a student at M.V. Lomonosov Secondary and High School (Hanoi), excitedly recounted his family's recent memorable trip from Hanoi to the Central Highlands. Dang's family visited Ky Anh beach, Hoi An ancient town, and then explored Kon Tum, Gia Lai, and Dak Lak. On their way back, they stopped in Quy Nhon, Hue, Quang Tri, and Quang Binh.

"My parents drive themselves, combining hotel stays with camping outdoors. My siblings and I not only travel but also get closer to nature, learn to live slowly, and feel each place. At Ky Anh beach (Ha Tinh), I watched the sunrise, saw fishing boats, and caught seafood myself. In Hoi An, the ancient town was ablaze with lanterns at night, and early in the morning, my family cycled through the tranquil space, like two different worlds. In Mang Den, I immersed myself in pristine nature with waterfalls and pine forests. Camping by Lake T'nưng in Gia Lai, the sunrise was as beautiful as a mirror, kingfishers darted about, and the weather was cool. I love sleeping in a tent amidst nature, running around in the morning, and breathing in the fresh air," Dang recounted.

According to Dang, these experiences help children connect with diverse cultures and landscapes, develop independence, and cultivate a love for nature.

Discover yourself through summer vacation programs.

Besides trips, many parents choose activities that develop skills and provide future career guidance for their children. Nguyen Gia Van An, a student at Hung Vuong Specialized High School (Gia Lai), participated in a career guidance and self-development program costing approximately 1 million VND for 8 weeks. "I feel more confident and secure knowing I have someone to guide me. My parents always want me to develop comprehensively, not only through books but also through real-world experiences. Therefore, they are willing to invest in me interacting with inspiring people and honing my thinking and skills," An said.

Lam Duy, representative of Tra Da Mentor (Ho Chi Minh City), the organizer of summer activities for Van An, said: "Summer is an opportunity for students to hone their critical thinking, teamwork skills, and presentation skills."

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Lien, who works at the Xanh Tue Duc school system (Hanoi) and has many years of experience designing summer tours for her two sons, shared her approach to organizing summer activities for different age groups. For elementary school students, she suggests creating practical experiences, especially focusing on English. For middle school students, Ms. Lien encourages them to work and gain experience to grow. "Children can work part-time to understand the value of labor, participate in international summer camps, go back to their hometowns to raise chickens, swim in rivers, volunteer at farms, learn baking, or work with recycled materials," Ms. Lien said.

For high school students, summer is a life-shaping time. Ms. Lien once took her eldest son to explore 5-star hotels as part of his future studies, while her younger son planned a cross-Vietnam trip with friends and participated in a career guidance course.

According to Ms. Lien, this experience not only helps children learn and develop skills but also fosters a love for nature, independence, and family bonding, creating precious memories on their journey to adulthood.
