Taking care of the lives of the poor.

Việt NamViệt Nam04/11/2024

In recent times, the Party Committee, government, Fatherland Front , mass organizations, and a large number of people in Viet Tri city have actively responded to and contributed to helping the poor. These practical activities to care for the lives of the poor in the city have created a ripple effect and multiplied the spirit of "mutual support and compassion" in society, helping the poor and those in difficult circumstances to improve their lives and achieve stability.

Taking care of the lives of the poor.

Handing over a solidarity house to the family of Ms. Vu Thi Hien in Zone 2, Kim Duc commune, Viet Tri city.

Comrade Nguyen Thi Hoa Mai - Vice Chairman of the Fatherland Front Committee of Viet Tri City, said: Identifying the work of caring for and supporting the poor in particular and social welfare activities in general as one of the important tasks in its work, the Fatherland Front Committee of Viet Tri City always proactively develops plans, programs and methods of mobilization to build and supplement the "For the Poor" Fund; mobilizes social resources to support the construction of solidarity houses for poor households facing housing difficulties; coordinates support for livelihoods and households facing sudden difficulties... receiving positive responses from agencies, units, businesses, and all strata of the people...

From the beginning of 2024 to the present, the Fatherland Front of the city and its member organizations have raised over 5.4 billion VND for the "For the Poor" Fund and social welfare programs. From this fund, the Fatherland Front of the city has organized visits and presented 2,757 Tet gifts worth over 2.5 billion VND; coordinated with the City Housing Review Steering Committee to support the construction and handover of 31 solidarity houses, houses of compassion, and houses of solidarity and humanity with a total amount of over 2.3 billion VND; and organized free medical examinations, treatment, and medicine distribution, and provided economic development support to over 2,300 poor households, near-poor households, households with special difficulties, and policy beneficiary families, worth over 600 million VND.

In particular, the Standing Committee of the City's Fatherland Front has strengthened the Relief Mobilization Committee and guided grassroots units to establish committees for receiving, distributing, and utilizing voluntary contributions to support people in overcoming difficulties caused by natural disasters, epidemics, and incidents; and to support patients with serious illnesses. By the end of October 2024, the City's Fatherland Front had received over 3.7 billion VND, and in coordination with the City People's Committee, organized visits and provided support to two families whose relatives went missing in the Phong Chau bridge collapse, worth 70 million VND. This has created motivation and instilled confidence in the poor to improve their lives, contributing to reducing the city's overall poverty rate to 0.49%.

Ms. Hien's family, residing in Zone 2, Kim Duc Commune, is classified as a poor household facing particularly difficult circumstances. Ms. Hien herself lacks stable employment, her husband died in a traffic accident, and she has to raise three young children who are still in school. In May 2024, the City's "For the Poor" Fund Campaign Committee mobilized support from various agencies and organizations to build a house for Ms. Hien's family. The house has an area of 96 square meters and a total value of 195 million VND. Ms. Hien shared: "Before, my family lived in a dilapidated house with cracked walls that could collapse at any time, causing constant worry and anxiety. Thanks to the Fatherland Front at all levels and the local government, my family was able to build a new house. I'm so happy; this year, my family will be able to celebrate Tet in our new home..."

The family of Ms. Nguyen Thi Hanh is also classified as a poor household with particularly difficult circumstances in Zone 1, Thanh Dinh commune. Ms. Hanh has limited working capacity. In 2023, her family was approved for support to build a solidarity house. After more than a month of construction, the house was completed with a total cost of over 200 million VND. Ms. Hanh also received a breeding cow worth 15 million VND from the Fatherland Front of the city to support her long-term livelihood; the cow is now growing and developing well.

It can be seen that the work of caring for the lives of the poor and disadvantaged people by the Fatherland Front at all levels in Viet Tri city has been constantly innovated in content and improved in quality. They have proactively coordinated and effectively implemented various campaigns, creating a widespread movement with a strong impact, contributing to raising awareness among all levels and sectors in joining hands to care for the poor and effectively implement social security programs.
