According to The Athletic, Al Hilal Club is close to reaching an agreement with Liverpool to sign striker Darwin Nunez. The transfer fee of this deal is around 53 million euros (equivalent to 46.2 million pounds), excluding additional terms.

Liverpool suffered a heavy financial loss in this deal when they spent £64 million to recruit Nunez from Benfica in the summer of 2022, not including additional fees.

Leaving Liverpool, Nunez will receive a significant pay rise, nearly tripling his current salary, from £140,000/week to around £400,000/week at Al Hilal.

According to talkSPORT, the new deal will make Nunez one of the highest-paid players in the world , surpassing many top stars such as Virgil van Dijk, Bruno Fernandes and Lamine Yamal. He will also receive a salary equivalent to Mohamed Salah and Vinicius Junior, two of the most promising players in European football at the moment.

Previously, in the January transfer window, Liverpool had rejected an offer worth around £70 million from Al Hilal. The reason was that coach Arne Slot was not ready to part with the Uruguayan striker while the season was still going on. However, it seems that the team from Saudi Arabia has not given up and is about to complete the deal to make Nunez their most important contract this summer.

Transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed: “Darwin Nunez will go to Al Hilal. The two parties have reached a verbal agreement. The transfer fee is 53 million euros, plus additional fees. The contract is for 3 years. Nunez has agreed and will undergo a medical examination in the near future.”

In fact, Nunez's departure was predicted in advance. The player showed inconsistent performance in the 2024/25 season, making only 8 Premier League starts. Last December, former centre-back Jamie Carragher predicted the possibility of the player leaving Anfield.

“We said we don’t know what Nunez will do next, so neither do the other defenders. But you never say that about a good player, do you? I’m not sure Nunez will be here next season. Maybe Liverpool will look to sell him.”

Sitting next to him that day, former Arsenal striker Ian Wright also admitted his frustration: “I never know what will happen when Nunez is one-on-one with the goalkeeper. For the price he is, I think we should have seen more from him.”
