According to The Athletic, Al Hilal are close to reaching an agreement with Liverpool to sign striker Darwin Nunez. The transfer fee is estimated at around €53 million (approximately £46.2 million), excluding add-ons.

Liverpool suffered a significant financial loss on this deal, having spent £64 million to sign Nunez from Benfica in the summer of 2022, not including add-ons.
Upon leaving Liverpool, Nunez will receive a significant salary increase, almost tripling his current wage, from £140,000 per week to around £400,000 per week at Al Hilal.
According to talkSPORT, the new compensation package will make Nunez one of the highest-paid players in the world , surpassing many top stars such as Virgil van Dijk, Bruno Fernandes, and Lamine Yamal. He will also receive a salary comparable to Mohamed Salah and Vinicius Junior, two of the brightest stars in European football at the moment.
Previously, during the January transfer window, Liverpool rejected an offer worth around £70 million from Al Hilal. The reason was that manager Arne Slot was not ready to part ways with the Uruguayan striker while the season was still underway. However, it seems the Saudi Arabian club has not given up and is close to completing the deal to make Nunez their most important signing this summer.

Transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed: “Darwin Nunez will join Al Hilal. A verbal agreement has been reached. The transfer fee is €53 million, plus add-ons. The contract is for three years. Nunez has agreed and will undergo a medical examination soon.”
In fact, Nunez's departure had been predicted beforehand. The player showed inconsistent form in the 2024/25 season, making only 8 starts in the Premier League. Last December, former central defender Jamie Carragher predicted the possibility of the player leaving Anfield.
“We used to say we didn’t know what Nunez would do next, and neither did the opposing defenders. But you never say that about a good player, do you? I’m not sure Nunez will still be here next season. Maybe Liverpool will look to sell him.”
Sitting next to him that day, former Arsenal striker Ian Wright also admitted his disappointment: “I never know what’s going to happen when Nunez is one-on-one with the goalkeeper. At that price, I think we should have seen more from him.”
