The injury sustained by player Xuan Son (National Team) during the football match on the evening of January 5th has caused concern among many fans. Sharing information regarding Xuan Son's injury, Associate Professor Vo Tuong Kha, Head of the Department of Sports Medicine, University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, stated: "Through discussions with the medical team of the Vietnam Football Federation in Thailand, Xuan Son's injury is a fracture of the middle third of the right tibia. Preliminary examinations have not revealed any damage to the knee or ankle. The fracture is not significantly displaced, and there are not many fragments in either bone, making the reduction technique more complex, but the chances of a quick recovery are high."

Associate Professor Kha added that, with Son's injury, there is a good chance of recovery, but it depends on many factors such as: the technical skill of the surgical team, post-operative care, the state of infection, rehabilitation exercises, nutrition, and psychology.

At age 27, Son will need approximately 1-1.5 months for the bone to heal. Immediately after surgery, the patient needs to begin physical therapy to prevent muscle atrophy and joint stiffness, which will help with the rehabilitation process.

Rehabilitation exercises will be carried out in stages with appropriate exercises as prescribed by the doctor. Complete recovery can take 15-18 months. Besides good surgical technique, rehabilitation at the hospital, with the team, or at the club (called post-hospital rehabilitation - in the community) according to the training plan of the sports medicine specialist is very important.

After 5 matches and 7 goals at the 2024 ASEAN Cup, despite having to leave the field early in the second leg of the final against Thailand due to injury, striker Nguyen Xuan Son still became a favorite among Vietnamese fans. He made a significant contribution to helping the Vietnamese national team win the championship this year, bringing the joy of victory to millions of fans across the country.
