Illegal cutting down of 2,000 m2 of natural protective forest for farming

Accordingly, on May 5, the Forest Protection Management Station of Sub-region 604T inspected Sub-region 598T in Linh Truong commune (Gio Linh district) and discovered a large number of natural protective forest trees being illegally cut down.

The location of the deforestation is Lot 8, 8z, Block 2, Sub-area 598T. At the scene, the recorded area of ​​deforestation is 2,000 m2, of which, there are 1,950 m2 of poor evergreen broadleaf forest and 50 m2 of land with naturally regenerated trees. All natural forest trees such as canarium, banh, chestnut, bai bai... were cut down with a saw.

Immediately after the discovery, the authorities protected the scene, made a record, conducted verification and reported the incident. On May 6, the Forest Protection Management Station of Sub-region 604T worked with Ms. HTT (born in 1991), residing in Mit village, Vinh O commune, Vinh Linh district, who is believed to be involved in the deforestation case.

During the investigation, Ms. HTT admitted to deforestation for the purpose of farming. After that, the Ben Hai River Basin Protection Forest Management Board prepared a dossier and sent a report to the Gio Linh - Con Co Inter-District Forest Protection Department, requesting strict handling of the above illegal deforestation.

Director of Ben Hai River Basin Protection Forest Management Board Nguyen Ngoc Hung said that after reporting, Gio Linh - Con Co Inter-district Forest Protection Department issued a first notice to Ms. HTT to resolve the case.

This is an act that needs to be strictly handled because the entire area of ​​forest that was destroyed belongs to the natural protection forest planning and has been assigned to the management unit. Regarding the opinions of the people that the above forest area was reclaimed by them and used as old fields, the unit will continue to coordinate with the forest rangers to investigate and clarify.
