Chelsea officially appoints Xabi Alonso.

Chelsea have confirmed Xabi Alonso as the club's head coach from July 1, 2026, after reaching a four-year contract agreement.

The Spanish strategist will begin his work at the start of July, before the entire Chelsea team gathers to prepare for the new season.

Xabi Alonso shared on the London club's official website: " Chelsea is one of the world's leading clubs. I am also incredibly proud to be the head coach of this fantastic team."

Through conversations with the owners and the sports management team, we found ourselves sharing a common ambition.

Everyone wants to build a club that can consistently compete at the highest level and win many titles.

The current squad boasts many talented and promising players, so I feel honored to be coaching this team. The focus going forward is on working hard, building the right culture, and winning titles."

A statement from Chelsea read: " The appointment of Xabi Alonso reflects the club's belief in the Spanish manager's rich experience, coaching qualities and game design, leadership abilities, character and integrity."

Xabi was not only an outstanding football coach but also a leader and trusted partner in many important areas of team management.

Chelsea are confidently looking forward to the next phase with their partnership with Xabi, sharing a common determination to bring success to the Stamford Bridge club.

Following the announcement, Xabi Alonso became the sixth long-term manager appointed under BlueCo.

He will replace Liam Rosenior, who managed Chelsea for just 107 days before being sacked.
