For the first time in the Premier League era, and the first time in 40 years, Chelsea have conceded three or more goals to Nottingham at home. In 1986, Nottingham thrashed their West London rivals 6-2.
The humiliating defeat officially ended Chelsea's hopes of qualifying for the Champions League next season. After 35 rounds, "The Blues" are now 10 points behind the top five.
At this point, Cole Palmer and his teammates' hopes rested entirely on the FA Cup, but their opponent in the final was Manchester City. Meanwhile, Nottingham had virtually secured their survival in the league, being six points clear of the relegation zone.

Chelsea suffered a major slump towards the end of the season. |
In just 15 minutes, Chelsea conceded two goals to Nottingham. Taiwo Awoniyi and Igor Jesus shone in quick succession, silencing the Stamford Bridge crowd.
Chelsea rallied but all the home side could manage was Enzo Fernandez's shot hitting the post in the 11th minute. The already deadlocked game became even more difficult for "The Blues" when young Jesse Derry had to leave the field due to a serious injury. The 18-year-old's effort earned Chelsea a penalty, but Palmer missed it.
In the second half, the home team continued to play awkwardly and conceded a third goal to Nottingham, after a close-range shot by Awoniyi. At this point, many spectators had already left, leaving rows of empty seats. Chelsea's late efforts only resulted in a consolation goal, after an impressive improvised move by Joao Pedro in the 90+3 minute.
