When discussing family relationships, the bond between a father and daughter is always considered special, sacred, and noble. This is precisely why the second writing contest on the theme "Father and Daughter" has been receiving widespread participation from readers of all ages and backgrounds.
Specifically, after more than two months since its launch, the organizing committee has received over 500 entries in a variety of genres, including essays, diaries, and notes, which were sent to the Gia Dinh Viet Nam editorial office and via the contest email.
One of the entries was handwritten and presented carefully and beautifully.
Each entry brought its own unique range of emotions to the competition, from the joyful moments of welcoming a "little princess" into the world, to unforgettable memories of a child's growth, to the regrets and remorse of a child unable to be with their father in his final moments.
As a result, upon reading the submitted entries, many people couldn't hold back their tears because every word was so deeply moving and filled with love.
As exemplified by the heartfelt entry of Colonel Do Phu Tho , Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the People's Army Newspaper, in his contest entry "My daughter is the sun that warms my heart in all four seasons," readers can see themselves reflected in the moment of welcoming their daughter into the world.
If a mother endures nine months and ten days of pregnancy and childbirth, a father also goes through the same amount of hardship, filled with anticipation and excitement. Therefore, the image and sound of their newborn baby will forever remain in their minds for the rest of their lives. The moment of gazing at their little daughter's birth, hearing her cry, seeing her soft, silky hair, her tiny, round feet... all are radiantly beautiful in a father's eyes.
Like many other fathers, author Do Phu Tho shared the same anxious feelings, eagerly anticipating holding his little daughter in his arms: "I've waited so long to finally meet my beloved daughter, but I feel so embarrassed to hold her (my hands are used to holding guns). Everyone says she looks like me (a daughter who resembles her father is said to bring wealth)."
Each entry is a meaningful story, imbued with the love between a father and daughter.
Similarly, in her memoir about her father submitted to the competition, author Nguyen Hong ( Nghe An ) shared that she could never forget the day she left her father to go to her husband's home. Amidst the bustling atmosphere of the wedding, the image of her father silently shedding tears made her reluctant to leave for her husband's home.
“The daughter will not return home with her father; she will stay at her husband's house. The words 'husband's house' are vast and boundless. Vastr than the gold necklace her mother-in-law placed around her neck. The daughter looked at her father's teary eyes and felt heartbroken. Father, your daughter is grown up now. Why are you thinking so much, your mind so distant?” wrote author Nguyen Hong.
There are many other touching stories about the bond between father and daughter that are difficult to express in words, but which the authors have conveyed through simple, sincere words. All of these contribute to creating a vivid, emotional, and sacred picture of the father-daughter relationship.
With those meanings in mind, the second "Father and Daughter" writing contest in 2024 continued to receive attention from many readers of Vietnam Family magazine both domestically and internationally with works brimming with love. The closing ceremony and awards presentation were held on Vietnam Family Day (June 28).
