(HTV) - Fifty years ago, the swift and daring Ho Chi Minh Campaign, with the spirit of "One day equals 20 years," took place over five historic days, ending in a resounding victory and the reunification of the country.
Fifty years ago, on the historic day of April 26th, the Ho Chi Minh Campaign, the final campaign of the Spring 1975 General Offensive and Uprising, officially commenced. This was the shortest military campaign in the Vietnam War, lasting only five days (from April 26th to April 30th, 1975), but it marked a glorious milestone in the nation's history.
To better understand the "One day equals 20 years" spirit of our army and people in this historic campaign, the HTV team visited the Ho Chi Minh Campaign Museum, which houses invaluable "national treasures." Among them is the Ho Chi Minh Campaign duty logbook, meticulously recording hourly and daily events from April 25, 1975, to May 1, 1975, at the forward command post. The unwavering handwriting and the rapid succession of victory reports not only recreate the urgent pulse of the battlefield but also serve as powerful evidence of the will for national reunification and the indomitable fighting spirit of the Vietnamese People's Army.
The Ho Chi Minh Campaign was the shortest military operation in the Vietnam War.
Colonel Nguyen Van Nghinh
Colonel Nguyen Van Nghinh, who participated in the campaign as part of the 3rd Army Corps, emotionally recalled the heroic spirit of our army after the victory in the Central Highlands: "We received orders to march swiftly to Saigon, everyone was full of enthusiasm, volunteering to go to the front. When we entered Saigon, we encountered several enemy resistance strongholds. After fighting, we were guided by the people to the Independence Palace. Upon entering, we saw the liberation flag flying, and the soldiers erupted in joy at the victory."

Half a century has passed, and the history of the arduous struggle for national liberation is gradually fading into the past. However, the traditional values and profound historical lessons from the Ho Chi Minh Campaign, from the spirit of "One day equals 20 years," the will for unity, and the strength of the people's hearts will forever be a great source of spiritual strength, further motivating generations of Vietnamese people on the path to building and developing a prosperous country.
