Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thang, Director of a petroleum retail enterprise in Lam Dong, commented that based on fluctuations in world oil prices, domestic gasoline prices will likely continue to decrease this afternoon.

“Gasoline prices are expected to decrease by 500 - 600 VND/liter, diesel and kerosene prices will decrease by 300 - 400 VND/liter,” Mr. Thang predicted.

Agreeing with this opinion, Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Huong, Director of a petroleum retail business in Hanoi , also said that retail gasoline prices this afternoon could decrease by 500 - 700 VND/liter, while oil prices would decrease by about 300 - 500 VND/liter.

Meanwhile, the gasoline price forecast model of the Vietnam Petroleum Institute (VPI) shows that in the management session this afternoon, April 17, gasoline prices may continue to decrease by 3.1 - 3.5% if the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Industry and Trade do not set aside or use the gasoline price stabilization fund.

Specifically, VPI forecasts that the retail price of E5 RON92 gasoline may decrease by VND661 (3.5%) to VND18,219/liter, while RON95 gasoline may decrease by VND595 (3.1%) to VND18,605/liter.

Meanwhile, diesel may decrease by 2% to VND16,899/liter, kerosene may decrease by 2.4% to VND16,992/liter, and fuel oil may decrease slightly by 0.7% to VND15,787/kg.

VPI believes that the joint Ministry of Finance - Industry and Trade will continue to not affect the gasoline price stabilization fund this time.

In the adjustment period on April 10, the price of E5 RON92 gasoline decreased by VND1,491/liter, to VND18,882/liter. The price of RON95 gasoline decreased by VND1,712/liter, to VND19,207/liter.

Diesel prices also decreased by VND1,235/liter to VND17,243/liter. Kerosene prices decreased by VND1,322/liter to VND17,413/liter and fuel oil prices decreased by VND1,124/kg to VND15,902/kg.

Since the beginning of the year, domestic gasoline prices have undergone 15 adjustment sessions, including 6 decreases, 6 increases and 3 opposite sessions.

On the world market at 6:00 a.m. this morning, April 17, WTI oil price was at 62.65 USD/barrel, up 2.09%, equivalent to an increase of 1.28 USD/barrel, while US Brent oil price was at 65.92 USD/barrel, up 1.95%, equivalent to an increase of 1.26 USD/barrel.

According to Reuters , the unstable US trade policy has created instability for the global oil market and forced OPEC to lower its outlook for world oil demand this year.

Meanwhile, U.S. crude oil inventories rose while gasoline and distillate inventories fell last week. Crude inventories rose 515,000 barrels to 442.9 million barrels in the week ended April 11, compared with analysts' expectations in a Reuters poll for a 507,000-barrel increase.

Oil's gains were capped by a forecast from the International Energy Agency (IEA) that global oil demand will grow at its slowest pace in five years.

Concerns about Mr Trump’s tariffs, combined with rising output from the OPEC+ group of OPEC and allies such as Russia, have pushed oil prices down about 13% this month.
