According to initial information, at approximately 3:20 PM, the Da Nang City Border Guard Command received a report from the Cua Dai Border Guard Station regarding an accident involving a speedboat with registration number QNa-1108 on the passenger transport route from Cu Lao Cham to the mainland.
While traveling to an area approximately 4.3 nautical miles east of the Cua Dai Border Guard Station, the vessel began to take on water and sank into the sea.
Immediately after receiving the information, the Border Guard, rescue forces, and specialized vehicles quickly arrived at the scene to deploy rescue operations.
All 19 people on board the boat were safely rescued and taken to safety by emergency vehicles.
According to the Da Nang City Border Guard, the initial cause has been identified as the speedboat taking on water during its journey at sea, leading to its loss of buoyancy and subsequent sinking.
After successfully rescuing the victims, the authorities continued to secure the scene, gather information, and investigate to determine the cause of the incident.
Authorities also stated that the rescue operation was launched immediately after receiving the report to ensure the safety of passengers and crew members. Currently, the health of those rescued is stable.
Authorities in Da Nang City are continuing to investigate the cause of the boat sinking and assess the technical condition of the vessel to aid in the investigation.
In 2022, a particularly serious speedboat accident occurred in the Cua Dai sea area, resulting in 17 deaths. Investigators determined the accident was related to violations of regulations governing waterway traffic, and the captain was prosecuted according to the law.
