Hosting both the THACO Cup 2026 Student Football Tournament Finals and the 2nd THACO Cup International Student Football Tournament 2026, the host team, Nha Trang University, is not prioritizing results. With the enthusiastic support of their home crowd, the Nha Trang University team experienced an emotional final round of the THACO Cup 2026. Coach Nguyen Anh Tu's players remained undefeated in all three group stage matches, before being eliminated in the quarterfinals after losing to Dong Nai University of Technology. Their high level of determination and dedication from each player was evident to the fans. At the 2026 International Student Tournament, the host team promises to showcase a new style of play with strengthened squads across all positions. Immediately after the THACO Cup 2026 final round, the Nha Trang University team has been diligently training and perfecting their tactical strategies for the tournament. With many positive changes, the Nha Trang University team is ready to surprise the defending runner-up, the University of Laos, in their opening match of Group A, which takes place at 4 PM.

This year, the defending runner-up Lao University team is considered stronger than last year, with players who previously played for the Lao U23 team such as Phudthachak Vongsili, Soulisak Manpaseuth, Phetvixay Phimmasen, and Oun Phetvongsa. With such a star-studded squad, Mr. Chaylasy Gnophanxay, representing the Lao University team, confidently aims for the final. The Lao University coaching staff also stated they are not intimidated by the pressure from the crowd when playing against the host team in the opening match. Earlier, at 1:30 PM on the same day, the opening match of Group B took place between the University of Svay Rieng, Cambodia, and the National University of Singapore. Being in the same group as the 2026 THACO Student Tournament champion, the University of Water Resources, meant that the University of Svay Rieng and the National University of Singapore had to battle it out for a chance to advance. The two teams were considered fairly evenly matched, promising a thrilling game.
Coach Siva of the National University of Singapore team said: "Every player on the team will take to the field with pride representing the university. Our team just had a successful year with a double championship win in the Singapore Student Games. We will strive to conquer every opponent at the International Student Games, focusing intensely on the opening match against Svay Rieng University of Cambodia." Meanwhile, Coach Dara of Svay Rieng University of Cambodia said that the entire team has been training seriously for the International Student Games and is eager to showcase their full potential. "We respect our opponents and also pursue the goal of winning," Coach Dara said.
