Competing with two opponents with lower performance parameters will help Huy Hoang not be "overwhelmed" like when competing in the previous 800m freestyle qualifying round. This helps him somewhat feel comfortable mentally, promising to have positive performance parameters. This event only takes the eight athletes with the best performance parameters to the final.
