Leaders of the Ministry of Ethnic Minorities and Religion and the People's Committee of An Giang province presented gifts to influential figures among the Khmer community.

These days, Mr. Chau Soc Sa (residing in O Lam commune, Tri Ton district) is extremely delighted to celebrate the traditional Chol Chnam Thmay New Year with the profound attention of all levels, sectors, and localities. In particular, he is also honored to attend the gathering of prominent and respected figures among the Khmer ethnic minority, organized by the Ministry of Ethnic Minorities and Religion and the Provincial People's Committee in Tri Ton district.

Mr. Chau Soc Sa shared: “The Khmer people in Tri Ton district have received attention and support in terms of economic life and social welfare, especially the children have been given the opportunity to go to school and learn to read and write. Therefore, we are very grateful for the special attention of the Party, the State, the District Party Committee, and the People's Committee of Tri Ton district towards the Khmer people. As respected figures in the community, we are given the opportunity to play a role in disseminating information and mobilizing people to comply with the Party's guidelines and the State's policies and laws, as well as participating in contributing to building cleaner, more beautiful, and more civilized villages and hamlets.”

Currently, many rural roads in Tri Ton district have been concreted through social mobilization, and many Khmer families have received support in terms of housing, land, clean water, and vocational training, leading to increasingly prosperous economic lives. As a result, the villages and hamlets are more joyful and enthusiastic during the Chol Chnam Thmay New Year celebrations.

Sharing the joy, Venerable Chau Ty, the head monk of Soai So Tom Nop Pagoda (Nui To commune, Tri Ton district), said: “The attention of the Party, the State, and all levels of government in recent times has created trust in the hearts of the Khmer people, helping them to work hard to escape poverty and build prosperous villages. As President Ho Chi Minh taught, unity is the strength that leads to success. Buddhist teachings also affirm that unity is the strength of all beings to overcome all difficulties and obstacles. Therefore, I will continue to encourage the people to always trust the Party and the State and always comply with the policies of the local government, and to unite to build a more developed Tri Ton region.”

Speaking about the efforts to improve the lives of the Khmer people in the locality, the Chairman of the Tri Ton District People's Committee, Nguyen Van Be Tam, informed: Tri Ton currently has 32.84% of its population belonging to ethnic minorities, with 37 Theravada Khmer temples. Therefore, the locality pays special attention to supporting the economic, cultural, and spiritual lives of the people. During the annual Chol Chnam Thmay Tet (Khmer New Year), together with the local political system, the District People's Committee always organizes visits to and encourages the temples and creates beneficial recreational activities for the Khmer people. At the same time, it also combines various resources to support the Khmer ethnic minority with land, housing, clean water, assistance in purchasing machinery, and services for agricultural production and other trades to help them improve their lives and escape poverty sustainably.

In Tinh Bien town, special attention is paid to caring for the lives of the Khmer ethnic minority. Notably, this includes positive results in implementing the National Target Program for socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas for the period 2021-2025 and implementing ethnic policies in the town.

According to Ly Thuy Van, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Tinh Bien Town, with the special attention of the Town Party Committee, the Town People's Committee, and various departments and localities, policies and guidelines for ethnic minorities have been implemented promptly, contributing to the promotion of agriculture, trade, services, and social welfare, resulting in more stable lives for the Khmer people.

Specifically, the Khmer people have access to vocational training, job creation, and employment opportunities in the provinces of Long An, Binh Duong, Dong Nai, and Ho Chi Minh City. The development of education and training, and the improvement of the quality of human resources for ethnic minorities, is always a priority. The town currently has 138 Khmer teachers actively involved in training local human resources. Notably, the percentage of poor households belonging to ethnic minorities in Tinh Bien town is 273, accounting for 3.47% of the total ethnic minority households in the town. These results demonstrate the local government's efforts in caring for the material and spiritual well-being of the Khmer people.

During a meeting with the Khmer ethnic minority community in An Giang on the occasion of the traditional Chol Chnam Thmay New Year 2025, Deputy Minister of Ethnic Minorities and Religion Y Thong expressed his joy and excitement at the positive changes in the economic and cultural lives of the people, contributing positively to the province's economic, cultural, and social achievements in recent years. “The locality needs to continue to effectively implement ethnic and religious policies, linked with social welfare policies. Continue to pay attention to supporting and caring for the material and spiritual lives of the people, especially poor households, near-poor households, and families with difficult circumstances. On this occasion, I wish the Khmer people in An Giang a united, joyful, healthy, safe, and economical Chol Chnam Thmay New Year 2025, in accordance with the civilized lifestyle, customs, traditions, and beautiful cultural heritage of the ethnic group,” Deputy Minister Y Thong emphasized.
