Changing perceptions about vocational training
Alongside the task of improving the overall quality of education , Thu Thua Secondary School (Thu Thua commune) identifies career guidance and orientation for students after secondary school as one of the important tasks contributing to improving the quality of education and developing human resources for the locality.
The school is stepping up its efforts to raise awareness among parents and students, regularly organizing awareness campaigns about the policy on vocational training after lower secondary school through flag-raising ceremonies, parent-teacher meetings, and counseling activities before the entrance exam for grade 10. Through these activities, parents and students understand that vocational training is not a secondary option but a suitable path for many students in the current social context.

The school organizes career counseling activities linked to practical experience. In recent years, the school has collaborated with vocational education institutions such as Long An College, Viet Nhat Vocational School, College of Technology and Tourism , etc., to organize many career counseling activities for students.
In particular, the school organized a Career Guidance and Post-Secondary Education Orientation Conference right on the school grounds, with the participation of leaders from vocational education institutions, teachers, parents, and students. At the conference, students were introduced to various training programs, job opportunities, and career development prospects.
A highlight of these activities is inviting former students who have found stable employment to return and interact with the students. These real-life stories help students and parents gain a more concrete understanding of the vocational training path.
In addition, the school enhances field trips and experiential learning at vocational training facilities. Specifically, the school organizes field trips for 9th-grade students to vocational education institutions. During these trips, students directly learn about workshops, training programs, and the learning environment for students. Through these experiential activities, students have the opportunity to gain firsthand experience with the professional world , thereby forming a clearer understanding of their future career paths.
According to Pham Quoc Tuan, Principal of Thu Thua Secondary School: “Homeroom teachers are close to each student, understanding their academic abilities, interests, and family circumstances. Therefore, the school places special emphasis on promoting the role of homeroom teachers in career counseling and guidance for students. Through regular exchanges between homeroom teachers and parents, many students are guided to choose a learning path that is more suitable to their abilities and circumstances.”
In addition, the school organizes individual counseling sessions for students and parents after the 10th grade entrance exam results are announced. During these sessions, the school invites all parents and students to discuss directly with the school's leadership team to jointly choose the most suitable path. Through these counseling sessions, many parents have changed their perceptions and confidently encouraged their children to choose vocational training.”
Thanks to the synchronized implementation of various solutions, career guidance and orientation for students after lower secondary school at Thu Thua Secondary School have seen positive changes. In recent years, the percentage of students choosing different educational paths after graduating from lower secondary school has been increasing. Besides the number of students continuing their education at upper secondary school, more and more students are confidently choosing vocational training at vocational schools and colleges.
"The good news is that parents' and students' perceptions of vocational education have changed positively. Many parents understand that each student has a different path to development, and vocational training is a sound choice for many. The initial results have contributed to improving the effectiveness of the school's post-secondary education program and helped students have a clearer direction for their future," Mr. Tuan added.
Student recruitment through multiple solutions
Long An College emphasizes that student recruitment is not just about quotas, but also about a commitment to quality graduates, sustainable employment, and opportunities for further education after completing lower and upper secondary school. In 2026, the college aims to recruit 4,560 students, including 1,275 for college-level programs and 3,285 for vocational programs.

According to Le Quoc Hung, Principal of Long An College: “To meet the enrollment target assigned by the Provincial People's Committee, the school focuses all resources on career guidance and recruitment through various solutions, including three main ones. The school proactively coordinates with junior and senior high schools to provide information and career guidance to 100% of students in grades 9 and 12, helping them confidently choose a path after graduating from junior and senior high school that suits their academic abilities and family's economic conditions.”
For students in grade 9, the school also provides counseling to parents. This helps parents confidently choose a career path for their children after graduating from junior and senior high school. The school also collaborates with junior and senior high schools to organize field trips and practical vocational training experiences for grade 9 and grade 12 students. This helps students better understand the training programs available so they can choose a career that suits their interests and passions.”
To train a workforce with the knowledge, skills, and industrial work ethic, Long An College continuously improves the quality of its training. Accordingly, over the years, the college has closely collaborated with more than 500 businesses, organizing practical training and internships for students at these businesses, following the principle of 70% practical training and 30% theory. Periodically, the college invites universities, colleges, and businesses to review, supplement, and adjust its training programs to better meet the needs of businesses and the labor market.
It is clear that vocational training is a practical approach for both families and society. When parents reduce pressure on academic qualifications, schools provide close guidance, and vocational schools invest in genuine teaching and learning, students will confidently choose a suitable path.
