Many concerns of Hai Duong students regarding choosing a major, enrollment in 2025... were thoroughly answered by enrollment experts at the enrollment and career counseling program, organized by Tuoi Tre newspaper in coordination with other units at Nguyen Trai High School for the Gifted (Nguyen Van Linh Street, Thanh Binh Ward, Hai Duong City) this morning, March 1.
The program attracted more than 4,000 students to attend.
Lots of important information related to graduation exams and admissions
Dr. Nguyen Manh Hung, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Training , said that 2025 is a relatively special year for high school students, they will take the high school graduation exam with the 2018 high school program.
Based on the adjustment of the curriculum, the Ministry of Education and Training has revised the regulations on high school graduation exams and university and college admissions to suit the new curriculum.
structured, for the high school graduation exam, this year's exam will have 1 less exam session and 2 fewer exam subjects (candidates will take 2 compulsory subjects and 2 elective subjects). For the foreign language subject, candidates who have a foreign language certificate in the prescribed list can be exempted from the exam. If candidates who already have a foreign language certificate still register for the graduation exam, they will have to use the results of this exam to consider graduation.

In addition, this year the ministry will remove the addition of vocational certificate points in graduation consideration. Candidates for graduation consideration will use a combination of process assessment scores (transcripts) and exam results in graduation recognition consideration at a ratio of 50-50.
In particular, this year the ministry will still organize two high school graduation exams for groups of candidates studying the old and new programs. For the group of candidates studying the old program who wish to take the exam according to the 2018 high school program exam, it will still be accepted.
Regarding university admission regulations, according to Mr. Hung, the Ministry of Education and Training has recently posted a draft of university admission regulations for 2025 for comments. The Ministry has accepted and completed them, and the official admission regulations will be announced in the near future.
According to Mr. Hung, based on the requests of localities andeducational institutions, the Ministry of Education and Training plans to eliminate early admission, instead of limiting the quota to 20% as in the draft.
In addition, this year's admission regulations are expected to have some technical adjustments in terms of "equivalent score conversion". Previously, for a training major, educational institutions would divide the quota according to each method and combination, from which students would register for admission.
However, according to the draft new regulations, educational institutions will not have to divide their quotas according to each method or combination. Schools must convert the admission scores of all methods to a common scale.
This year, the regulations stipulate that each candidate's bonus points do not exceed 10% of the maximum score. This adjustment is made because in the past, many training institutions had different ways of adding bonus points.

For national and international excellent students participating in direct admission, this year after receiving admission notice from training institutions, these candidates still have to register their wishes on the system, confirm their admission according to general regulations. Previously, candidates who passed the direct admission method could enroll later.
According to Mr. Hung, in the past, correcting errors in the registration process has encountered many difficulties, candidates can "go from passing to failing, from failing to passing". This year's regulations clearly stipulate that training institutions related to candidates who make errors must be responsible for resolving them immediately so that candidates do not miss the opportunity to enroll.
Does not studying a high quality program affect job opportunities?

"Not qualified to study advanced programs, high-quality programs, so only studying standard programs, will it affect job opportunities?", a student from Hai Duong asked.
Answering this question, MSc. Pham Thanh Ha, Deputy Head of the Department in charge of Foreign Trade University, shared: There is a difference between the advanced, high-quality program and the standard program, which is the language of study. If a student is admitted to the school but does not meet the language requirements, he or she can study the standard program. If after the first year, the foreign language level meets the requirements, the candidate can switch if the student has a need.
"The training program is based on the requirements of the labor market, ensuring the basic training requirements and educational philosophy finding of each school. Therefore, students do not have to worry about a job in a standard program compared to advanced, high-quality programs. Job opportunities depend largely on the students' efforts," said Ms. Ha.
Thinking assessment tests have many advantages when converting scores.

Many candidates in Hai Duong are interested in the ability assessment and thinking assessment in this year's admissions.
Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Duy Hai, Head of Admissions and Career Guidance Department, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, said: When developing a plan to convert admission scores with the admission methods that Hanoi University of Science and Technology will apply in 2025, the score of the thinking assessment test will have an advantage over the high school graduation exam score. Choosing the admission method with the thinking assessment test and having a foreign language certificate that meets the score level according to the regulations of Hanoi University of Science and Technology will be awarded bonus points.
Mr. Vu Duy Hai noted that candidates using the talent selection method, although the process is still maintained as last year, will have their highest score converted to get the selection score.
Prof. Dr. Nguyen Tien Thao - Director of the Testing Center, Hanoi National University, revealed an interesting point that last year, the Hai Duong candidate who achieved the highest score in the competency assessment test was a student from Thanh Mien High School, not a student from Nguyen Trai High School for the Gifted.
This means that if students have a solid grasp of basic knowledge and study all the subjects in the program, they can achieve high scores on the competency assessment test without having to "practice" advanced knowledge.
Why did the press industry reduce its quota in group C00?

Some Hai Duong students are worried about the decrease in journalism quotas for group C00. Geography major students at Nguyen Trai High School for the Gifted are worried that geography is becoming weaker in the admission groups.
Associate Professor, Dr. Dang Thi Thu Huong - Vice Principal of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) - explained: Training institutions with journalism majors have recently recruited with many combinations, to create conditions for candidates with diverse abilities such as foreign languages and mathematical thinking to enter this major.
The source of journalism quotas is allocated to different groups, so the quota for the traditional group C00 will decrease compared to many previous years. However, Ms. Huong reassures students who are strong in subjects in C00 that the quota for this group will still be prioritized.
"Students majoring in geography have many opportunities, not only in journalism and communications but also in many other fields," Ms. Huong affirmed.
Mr. Nguyen Tien Thao, Director of the Testing Center, Hanoi National University, revealed that the number of candidates registering for the 2025 competency assessment exam with the combination of physics, history, and geography is quite large.

Many questions for the "military" expert
Lieutenant Colonel Trinh Van Son - admissions assistant, Army Officer School 1 (Ministry of National Defense) - received many questions about military schools.
Most of the questions were to confirm the regulations related to the preliminary selection and general admission regulations of the military. Some students wanted to know how the learning environment at military schools is different from that of civilians. This shows that these students have a clear direction in registering for military schools.
Lieutenant Colonel Son said that one advantage that students might be interested in is that after graduating from military schools, they will be assigned jobs and will not have to worry about finding their own jobs. In addition, the military learning environment will train students to be disciplined and have the ability to overcome difficulties...
Military schools currently have 4 admission methods: Direct admission according to regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, considering academic transcripts, considering capacity assessment scores of Hanoi National University, Ho Chi Minh City National University and considering high school graduation exam scores.
He noted that students who want to apply for military majors must register for preliminary selection and meet the preliminary selection requirements.
Do women have less opportunities than men when applying for science and technology majors?
In response to this concern of the Hai Duong female student, Associate Professor Dr. Pham Van Thuan - Vice Principal of Vietnam Maritime University - affirmed: Vietnam Maritime University currently has many opportunities for women. Because besides traditional majors, there are many majors in the law and economics groups. Maritime students not only work in the marine environment but also have the opportunity to work on land.
Mr. Thuan also said that technical and technological schools today have close links with businesses to train according to job needs and accept students immediately after graduation.
This was also confirmed by Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Phu Khanh, Vice Principal of Phenikaa University and Associate Professor Dr. Vu Duy Hai, Head of Admissions and Career Guidance Department of Hanoi University of Science and Technology.
Studying about space, what are the job opportunities?

A student from Kinh Mon High School (Hai Duong) said he wanted to ask about "the sky", which means aerospace training majors. He wondered where in Vietnam this major is trained, are there job opportunities? Could it become a "hot" major like banking and finance in the 2000s in the future?
Associate ProfessorDr. Nguyen Phu Khanh, Vice Principal of Phenikaa University, said: There are many schools training in the aerospace industry. specifically, the aviation industry in Vietnam is developing and has equal opportunities for both men and women. In addition, Vietnam also has satellite technology programs.
"If you are passionate about the sky and want to choose to pursue a career in aerospace technology, don't be afraid that job opportunities are not high because as long as you focus on studying, you can become an expert and have good job opportunities," Mr. Khanh advised.
Professor Nguyen Tien Thao also said that at Hanoi National University and some other training institutions, there are currently majors that are suitable for students who are "passionate about the sky" such as basic sciences, astronomy, space geography, etc.
The teachers and consultants believe that not all "hot" majors have high job opportunities. On the contrary, there are narrow majors that few people want to study, but the job opportunities are great. And when young people have passion and seriously pursue their dreams, they are more likely to succeed.

Students worry that choosing the wrong major will leave them 'left behind'
At the private consultation booth, Do Manh Hiep, a 12th grade student at Nguyen Trai High School for the Gifted (Hai Duong), said he is interested in majors revolving around information technology.
Hiep went to the private consulting booths of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, University of Natural Sciences (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) and some schools with majors related to information technology to ask for advice and troubleshooting.
The male student said that when he entered the consulting booth, he asked many questions related to current and future career trends.
"The story of going to university is not just the first step, but also the consideration of what will happen after 4-5 years of graduating from this major. Programming may be a trend now, but 4-5 years later it may lose its value and become obsolete. Knowledge that is too easy and repetitive will be replaced by AI," Hiep said.
According to Hiep, the important thing right now is to carefully choose a major and thoroughly research the training programs of the schools. AI and semiconductors are among the options Hiep is considered.

Traveling 30km to the program, To Nguyen Viet Anh, a 12th grade student at Thanh Mien II High School (Hai Duong), brought 5 photocopies of certificates of merit to ask for advice on the talent selection method of Hanoi University of Science and Technology and to learn more about admission information of technical schools.
"I have an IELTS score of 7.5 and a second prize in the provincial IT competition. When I showed the certificates to the teachers for advice, I learned that certificates issued by the commune and district levels will be awarded 1 point in the talent selection process of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, and if they have the word "certificate of merit", they will be awarded 3 points," said Viet Anh.
Viet Anh said that he is also very interested in studying semiconductor microchips, and many teachers at the consulting booths advised that he can study materials engineering and NANO technology. Viet Anh assessed that this is a field with high career development opportunities when AI is gradually replacing many human jobs.
