Ho Chi Minh City announces 10th grade enrollment plan

On the morning of March 30th, the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City issued the plan for the enrollment of 10th grade students for the 2025-2026 school year.

Accordingly, students registering for admission to 10th grade in public schools and specialized high schools will do so entirely online.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, eligible candidates for admission to grade 10 are students who graduated from junior high school in Ho Chi Minh City in the 2024-2025 school year and are within the prescribed age range.

This year, Ho Chi Minh City has two methods for admitting students to 10th grade:

+ Admission by selection : For Thanh An Secondary and High School in Can Gio District (exclusively for students who graduated from this school in the 2024-2025 school year).

+ Entrance Examination : Conducted for candidates who have graduated from junior high school in Ho Chi Minh City. The entrance examination process is carried out in two stages:

Phase 1: Students register their 3 preferred choices (1st, 2nd, and 3rd) for the entrance exam to 10th grade in public high schools.

Phase 2: Depending on the actual application situation at high schools and the needs of the high schools, the Department of Education and Training will decide on supplementary enrollment and issue guidelines to ensure the rights of candidates, based on filling the enrollment quotas for schools that still have many vacancies.

The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee also advised students to choose universities near their current residence to avoid situations where they are accepted but do not submit enrollment documents.

Candidates will take three essay-based exams: mathematics, literature (120 minutes per subject), and a foreign language (foreign language 1 currently being studied at school, 90 minutes). The tentative exam dates are June 6th and 7th, 2025.

According to the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, the exam score is the sum of the component scores of each question in the exam, calculated on a 10-point scale, with decimal points up to 0.25. The admission score is the sum of the scores of the three exams plus additional points for priority and incentive categories. Successful candidates must have taken all three exams and not received a score of 0 on any exam.

Increase the number of application-based questions in the 10th grade entrance exam.

According to Mr. Nguyen Bao Quoc, deputy director of the Department of Education and Training, 2025 will be the first year that 9th-grade students will take the 10th-grade entrance exam under the 2018 general education program.

"Therefore, the distribution of knowledge levels in the exam has also been adjusted, reducing the proportion of questions at the recognition and comprehension levels, and increasing the proportion of questions at the application levels. For entrance exams from 2024 onwards, due to the application of the 2006 general education program, the number of questions at the recognition and comprehension levels will account for 70-75% of the knowledge in the exam."

From 2025 onwards, the number of questions requiring recognition and comprehension will decrease to 60%, while the number of questions requiring application will increase to 40%.

"This adjustment aims to assess the ability to apply learned knowledge to solve practical problems - in line with the 2018 general education curriculum," Mr. Quoc said.
