After a long absence from the big screen, Truong Giang unexpectedly returned to the 2026 Lunar New Year film race with the movie project "My Father's House, One Room ". From the first images released, the male artist attracted attention with his portrayal of a father from Central Vietnam with tanned skin and a weathered face, exuding the image of a hardworking, long-suffering laborer.
Before his "silence" in the film market, Truong Giang was a box office guarantee for comedy-entertainment films with a series of hit movies such as "49 Days , " "Taxi, What's Your Name?" , "Superstar Super Fool ," etc. These films helped him make a strong impression on audiences and become a familiar face at movie theaters.
This time, Truong Giang doesn't choose his signature comedic style but instead focuses on a very relatable family story. The film explores minor conflicts and differences in thinking between two generations – something many Vietnamese families can easily relate to.
This is also the first project where Truong Giang takes on three roles simultaneously: director, producer, and actor. After a long period of planning and investing a lot of personal effort and resources, he hopes to bring audiences a "spiritual treat" at the beginning of the year that is both relatable and emotionally profound.
Beyond just a father-son story, "My Father's House, One Room" also reveals a very distinctive aspect of life in Central Vietnam: the traditional fish sauce making craft. Bringing the fish sauce making profession to the screen not only makes the story more authentic but also demonstrates Truong Giang's respect for his homeland's culture – a "shade" he meticulously researched to portray fully.
My dad's one-room house revolves around the father-son relationship in a modern context, where a small, cramped house in a bustling city becomes a space that exposes generational differences.
The father character, played by Truong Giang, represents the older generation: valuing discipline, accustomed to hardship, living simply, and rarely showing emotion.
With its heartwarming message, relatable story, and unique setting, "My Dad's One-Room House" is expected to have an interesting showdown with his close friend Tran Thanh.
Previously, "Tho Oi" (Oh, Little Rabbit) - a psychological drama film by Tran Thanh - announced its cast, including singers Lyly and Dinh Ngoc Diep, MC Gil Le, rapper Phap Kieu, and Ali Hoang Duong.
The friendship between Tran Thanh and Truong Giang is considered a rare and enduring bond in the Vietnamese entertainment industry. Having both risen to prominence from the comedy stage, they are not only colleagues but also close friends, always supporting each other in both work and life.
Besides films starring Truong Giang and Tran Thanh, the Lunar New Year box office also features two other projects. "Mui Pho" (The Scent of Pho) is one of the mystery films, marking the first collaboration between artist Xuan Hinh and actress Thu Trang. "Bau Vat Troi Cho" (Heaven's Gift) (directed by Le Thanh Son), starring Tuan Tran and Phuong Anh Dao – the on-screen couple from "Mai" – revolves around the story of a single mother in a fishing village in Central Vietnam.
